I got back from Germany on Friday, I must say it's good to be
home! Germany has change a lot since I was last there in '92,
not for the better:traffic is insane, parking is
impossible/expensive, and the people are more rude than you can
imagine. But all in all I loved it! It was so good to see Ferris
Bks. again. As an M.P. my part of the post is still there, the
M.P. station, my barracks, our motor pool, P.X., skating rink,
NCO club, EM club, church, and yes... class six. I also went to
Bad Krueznach where I was stationed later and they were in the
process of tearing all of the posts down there, very sad! I love
Germany but damn it's good to be home!
Bill (Moose) Conner:
Lucky guy: Wish I could have went back. I was in Erlangen
with 1/35 Armor, then when I went back in 81 I was stationed
at Dexheim with 12th Eng Bn. I was living in Bad Kreuznach
which was then 8th Infantry Div. I was living in one of the
high rises just east of the post. Was on the 32nd floor,
excellant view of the entire town, especially when the
fireeworks were going off, man it was great. Heck Stormin
Norman was the Asst Div Cmdr when he was a 1 star. I know
you had a great time. |

For those who wanted to know about dirty Gerti she is still
alive in a Erlanger nursing home.
Bill (Moose) Conner:
Gerti she was the lady that cooked at Georges, wasnt she?
Remember the ham and egg sandwich's, those were great, and
the pickle spears, they were to die for, alot of fights
started over those pickle spears.
|
Karin:
No she was the a Waitress at Georges and also worked at
Reischadler. When the guys were fighting she used to get in
the middle and holler cut it out.I have a picture of her
posted under John and Karin Photos. |
Bill (Moose) Conner:
Hi Karin: I was there from 75 to 78. I remember Sylvia,
Monika and Scotty, she was from Scotland, I just dont
remember who cooked. Its really sad about Tom and Renata, I
really liked Tom. He had a dry sense of Humor, Man those
were the days. |
Karin:
Hi Bil,
as we were hanging out there was Aunt Paula and Mom that
cooked ( Mom was Renate's Mother ) Yes that were great time!
Did you see the pictures of them under John and Karin
Thrasher's photos.I lived in Erlangen till I came to Alabama
44 Years ago,you may know my girlfriend Sonja House?
|
Ron Barnhill, RedEye Unit:
I was in HHC 3/37th Armor in 68 to 70. There was a pic in
the gasthouse of Gerti from WWI posing with our Command Sgt.
Major who was a mule ferrier at the time. She was hot!!!

Hey Gene Youngblood, I arrived in Erlangen Oct 70, I was the
new-meat ya'll stuck on Tennalow range guard 2 days after I
arrived. Remember Sgt Stuckey. Also did some time there on CP
duty. All I remember about then was guarding the commissary and
PX with tanks. Lots of field duty and of course, "The Wall".
Viet Nam was winding down Erlangen was a scary place for a new
soldier back then.

I just found this site. Wow! I was at Ferris Barracks from 62-64
with B company, 1/35th Armor back in the days when it was the
4th Armored Division. I got pulled out of the tanks and put in
the Training Aids/Armory/Supply room when they found out I could
read without moving my lips.We were known as the "Bravo Buffers"
because if it was a horizontal surface, it was waxed and buffed.
Remember the grooves in the floors on the hallways? Just the
width of a P38 C rat can opener. 1st Sgts favorite little "extra
detail" was removing the oldwax and reapplying the new. While I
was there it was the time of the JFK 50 mile hike craze and 3 of
us, me Charlie Harper, and Mike Hamner decided to try it. The
other two made it, but I collapsed after 47 miles...hey what the
heck, I was used to riding in a nice track. Also remember
roadmarching to Bamberg (and back)in a howling blizzard when all
the other units stayed in their kasernes. The slop chute of
choice was the "Reichs Adler" back then. Anybody remember that.
Richard:
Hi Doug: Do I remember the Reich's Adler? Best time of my
life. Met my wife there and we have been married for 50yrs.
|
Walt:
MMMMMMMMM and she put up with you for fifty. |
Richard:
Of course she did! How else would you want it! |
Dirndl:
Hey Richard ,ask Walt how long Rose has put up him.LOL.Walt
is it 53 years for you and Rose? |
Richard:
Well, Walt, you heard what Dirndl is asking of you! so go
ahead, I'm listening.
|
Walt:
Well close to it March 6th 1956 that would be 52 2009 will
be 53 of course I am still a teenager by thought.
|
Dirndl:
Pretty darn close. Was only a few month off don`t you think
Richard.Congrats to both of you Walt & Richard for keeping
your wifes happy for so long

Hey guys from 2/81st Armor , are you out there. I was in
Erlangen Ferris Barracks from 78-81. Spent three good years
there, the best turret mech there was. I viewed the photos of
the barracks and just found out the place is closed now. I
remember the times at Graf and Hohensfels. If you guys from
charlie company are still around give me a note. RED LIONS

Also, if anyone knows where I can find service records for WW2
era German soldiers as I am trying to do some genealogy on my
maternal (German) side of the family and my grandfather was an
officer in the German Army in WWII. He was from Furth which is
close to Erlangen but I believe he was Austrian originally.

Barring congressional action (HR 2785), the Medicare payment
rate to physicians will be reduced by 10.6% in July of 2008.
This directly affects TRICARE beneficiaries because TRICARE
payment rate is based upon Medicare's sustainable growth rate
(SGR) update formula. This means that doctors will be forced to
accept less money for medical procedures. In the past these
reductions have caused doctors to turn away TRICARE patients and
will likely do so again if the reduced payment rates are not
blocked.
This issue will adversely affect survivors, retirees, members of
the active-duty, Guard and reserve and their families,
especially those living far from military installations. There
are already some doctors in remote areas who refuse to see new
TRICARE patients. Without congressional action to ensure these
cuts don?t take effect, more doctors may chose to turn TRICARE
beneficiaries away.

What was your grandma's maiden name. I have met Robert's
brother's wife. My wife said that she use to play with her
when they were children. My wife called her Hanna. Your
grandpa was in World War II. Hanna showed my wife how to
make May Baskets, she worked for the Kinder schule and was
considered a big sister to my wife. Hanna and her future
husband Robert worked at Siemens and walked arm in arm
pushing the bicycle. |

time I have had with her, may she rest in peace! My
grandfather Robert died almost exactly one year earlier.

I am hoping I might get lucky and get a hit on this, but I'm not
holding my breath. There were 2 teenage girls that used to come
hang out at the pils eckla when I was stationed there. They
invited me to there grandparents house for Thanksgiving, ity was
1983. I agreed to come only if I could buy the turkey. The
grandparents only request was that I wear my "best uniform". I
bought the turkey and met one of the girls in town and she took
it home. Thanksgiving day I arrived at the apartment only to
find half a turkey cooked. I pulled one of the girls aside and
said that I didnt want to be rude but where was the other half.
She grabbed my arm and took me into the kitchen. As soon as I
saw the oven I knew why. The turkey I bought was huuuugggggeee
and there oven was half the size of what I was used to. So if
either of you 2 girls come across this post( sorry I dont
remember names, but I have photos) please email me because I
still think of that every year when we have turkey. The only name
I remember is they hung out with a guy they called whiskey.

Looking for members of Bco 2/6 INF 90-92...God i love looking
back at my old pics from there. Brings back alot of good
memories. By the way how do u upload pics? I have a few and
would like to share them.
Walt Broadwell:
Goto the photo section and click upload photos very simple
follow instructions |
Richard Reed:
Hi Walt: I sent an email to yo esterday to ask Eddie, why
can't click on PHOTOS? It won't allow me to do so.
|
Walt:
As nice as the site is it appears that it's running it'self.
All my emails must go to trash can as I get no answers from
anyone. Was going to donate but until I find out whats going
on no way. I could care less about Nurnberg.
|
AL:
I know what you mean, I donated over a month ago and still
nothing about it in the donations page. Autopilot sucks!
|
Richard:
Its quite evident that no one is monitoring the website.
|
LiveinFerris:
Ya, you can tell by all the spam that`s coming back to the
website.........Eddie is MIA as of late???? |
Richard:
Hey livein Erlangen. Anyone there from the 720th?
|
Eddie:
That's not monitoring the website. It's monitoring the
WEBSITES. There are a total of 14 websites in the area. I
have to keep up with the guest books in every site plus the
message boards.
In the mean time I have to run 4 sites selling t-shirts and
caps just to have enough money to keep these sites going. I
also have to make all the shirts myself and ship them.
I get on the average of 900 emails a day on these sites.
Most are spam, but I have to pick through them to find the
real ones.
If I have 10 wanting their name put on the roster, the very
next day 5 of them want to change their email address.
That's not even counting the ones that sign up on the
message board and then the very next day they don't know
their password.
But I'm moving along slowly but surely. |
Walt:
Thanks Eddie I was not aware you were controling all the
other sites> I thought they were other links to go to. You
have a job.If you need help let me know.
|
Liveinferris:
Not that I know of, but I`ll ask around..........
|
AL:
I didn't mean to piss you off Eddie, I realize your plate is
full. I come to this site almost every day and when I tried
yesterday and only got your message I was depressed. Thanks
a million for getting the site running again and for all
that you do. Too bad everyone dosen't put their money where
their mouth is! DONATE!!!!!!

I went for a visit last November. I took some pics, had some
Kitzmann beer. The interesting thing it was exactly 20 years
before that I met my now ex-wife there. The memories of friends
and the past brought tears to my eyes and reminded me that the
best time in my life was there, on Gate 1 gaurd duty, in the
Pizza Bar, walking to McDonalds, drinking in B-15, BN runs

I was climbing up St. Augustine, FL Lighthouse around Christmas
and ran into a woman wearing a 1ST BN. 46th INF T- shirt. Having
served at Ferris Bks. From 73'-75',HHC&CSC, 1/46th INF, I was
quite suprised. I asked about the shirt, and she said it was her
son's, from Ft. Knox, as she walked down and I walked up the
stairs. That's it. I would have liked to talk to her longer, but
the traffic in the Lighthouse would not permit it.... Erlangen

I was stationed at Ferris Barracks in Erlangen, Germany from
1958 to 1960 in
4th Armor, A Company, 1st Platoon as a certified tank driver. In
A Company's
mess hall I painted a picture of Sad Sac walking down a hill
checking for mines on the road with a metal detector. Tanks
were behind him. Thought someone might have seen it on the wall.
I am looking for a list of names of people that were in this A
Company 1st Platoon. I would like to look up some of these
buddies from the good old Army days. There was never a reunion
that I was ever aware of. If anyone knows how to find this
listing of the names in A Company 1st Platoon or knows where
this record could be accessed please let me know.
Thanks You can E-mail me.

appreciated!! My E-Mail is shorty_e84@yahoo.de

Hi There: You could not have picked one of the most common
named in the U.S. Do you know what state he originated from?
He would probably be in his 70's by this time. Did he pursue

Manuela:
Hi Richard,
thanks for your reply!
Yes, unfortunately it's a very common name... Just like
mines - Meyer... ;o(
Unfortunately I do not have any further info about him at
all... He's supposed to be from the south... But that's
quite a few states also ;o( Any ideas on how I might be able

individuals that I threw in jail. If you don't have anything

For your information, my original duty station was HQ'S

I just wanted to let you know that you made 5 grammatical

That's not bad. However, I don't believe you would be able

does not exist anymore, instead there is Bar called

you just needed to go to B52 to watch the fights and the
night was saved. How about Funnies, did you ever go there?

Thanx for the web-site. Always looking for jogs to the memory.
I was stationed with 2nd Platoon, Company C, 793rd MP Bn in
Erlangen from September 1974 thru September 1977. Left as
platoon sergeant. Lots of good memories. Good duty. Good times.
Recently I went to Google Earth and found Ferris Barracks on the
satellite. Lots of changes since I was there and since the
locals took over - but I can still see the old base.
paul brown:
glad to see someone from my era there,12/74-10-77,B1/35

since you were one of my first "real" Sgts, I remember you.

This was very good duty. Came home as a Sgt. in charge of the
communication section of C Battery of the 3oth Field Artillery.
In Septermber of 1990 my wife, daughter and myself went back to
Germany and drove to Erlangen to see if we could see the base.
We drove up to the gate and I asked the gaurd if we could drive
in and look around? He said why and I told him I had been on the
base for 1.5 years, his comment, why would you ever want to come
back and see this place. He let us on, the base had really
changed our barricks and motor pool were all gone.

I was a member of HHC 1/46 and HHC 2/6 from sept. 83' to march
of 85'. I have alot of good memories including the NCO Club and
the Black Bear in Buchenhof and who can forget the pommes frites
with cheese and ketchup and the pizza from the pizza bar.I
married a german girl and we have 2 children that we took to
Erlangen in 05', its crazy how much it's changed over the years.
1/46 and 2/6 messhall crew.

I was in 2/6 INF HHC as a medic from April 1987 to Nov. 1989
Robert George:
I would like to contact anyone in those units of 2/6 at
those times. I was with the Mortar platoon, and most of the
grunts at that time.

David Nerud (MSG):

I love Erlangen. I lived there from 1965 until 1975. My
grandmother "Annie"
and grandfather "Robert" worked at the movie theater at Ferris
Barracks. They made the popcorn and later sold sandwiches. They
called my grandmother "Popcorn Annie". I spent many days helping
them. I also attended Erlangen Elemantary for a few months. I
remember walking from the snack bar to the theater not matter
what the weather was like. It broke my heart when they closed
Ferris Barracks. I did visit there a few years back and it sure
has changed. :-)

I was in 2/81 from 77 to 79. I'll be returning to Germany and
expect to stop by Erlangen for the fest next year. Anybody have
a recommendation for hotel in Erlangen?
Kevin R.& Mark C. - if you're out there drop me a line.
LiveinFerris:
Go to the German Link page on this site. There you will find
a couple hotel`s located close to the old barracks and not
too far from the Fest.

As my wife and i where out doing a daily road trip . we happen
to look up and saw a ole pair of woren out jump boots , hanging
over the freeway. we both looked up and said someone was a
single digit miget, its nice to see a tradition carried on after
being out for 25 yrs, the last pair i hung out to dry was at Dco
5 /77 armor in mannhiem on my 2nd tour. and our last.......
so if you got a place you work and just quit hang them up proud
. you have done your time. short timer 2 digit miget
