I got back from Germany on Friday, I must say it's good to be home! Germany has change a lot since I was last there in '92, not for the better:traffic is insane, parking is impossible/expensive, and the people are more rude than you can imagine. But all in all I loved it! It was so good to see Ferris Bks. again. As an M.P. my part of the post is still there, the M.P. station, my barracks, our motor pool, P.X., skating rink, NCO club, EM club, church, and yes... class six. I also went to Bad Krueznach where I was stationed later and they were in the process of tearing all of the posts down there, very sad! I love Germany but damn it's good to be home!

Bill (Moose) Conner:
Lucky guy: Wish I could have went back. I was in Erlangen with 1/35 Armor, then when I went back in 81 I was stationed at Dexheim with 12th Eng Bn. I was living in Bad Kreuznach which was then 8th Infantry Div. I was living in one of the high rises just east of the post. Was on the 32nd floor, excellant view of the entire town, especially when the fireeworks were going off, man it was great. Heck Stormin Norman was the Asst Div Cmdr when he was a 1 star. I know you had a great time.

For those who wanted to know about dirty Gerti she is still alive in a Erlanger nursing home.

Bill (Moose) Conner:
Gerti she was the lady that cooked at Georges, wasnt she? Remember the ham and egg sandwich's, those were great, and the pickle spears, they were to die for, alot of fights started over those pickle spears.

Karin:
No she was the a Waitress at Georges and also worked at Reischadler. When the guys were fighting she used to get in the middle and holler cut it out.I have a picture of her posted under John and Karin Photos.

Bill (Moose) Conner:
Hi Karin: I was there from 75 to 78. I remember Sylvia, Monika and Scotty, she was from Scotland, I just dont remember who cooked. Its really sad about Tom and Renata, I really liked Tom. He had a dry sense of Humor, Man those were the days.

Karin:
Hi Bil,
as we were hanging out there was Aunt Paula and Mom that cooked ( Mom was Renate's Mother ) Yes that were great time! Did you see the pictures of them under John and Karin Thrasher's photos.I lived in Erlangen till I came to Alabama 44 Years ago,you may know my girlfriend Sonja House?

Ron Barnhill, RedEye Unit:
I was in HHC 3/37th Armor in 68 to 70. There was a pic in the gasthouse of Gerti from WWI posing with our Command Sgt. Major who was a mule ferrier at the time. She was hot!!!

Bill (Moose) Conner:
Yea wasnt that the one where they made a cheeseburger and put an egg on it right. Almost like a BLT.

Thank you Karlheinz Heimberger for showing me this website! What great memories! I lived in Erlangen in the mid 60's and was known under my maiden name Waltraud Schistowski. I was a member of the Chapel choir Looking for some dear friends: George Littlefield, Patrick Spencer, and George Dimitriyadis. Also from the early 60's: Larry H. Hatlin. Hey Gene Youngblood, I arrived in Erlangen Oct 70, I was the new-meat ya'll stuck on Tennalow range guard 2 days after I arrived. Remember Sgt Stuckey. Also did some time there on CP duty. All I remember about then was guarding the commissary and PX with tanks. Lots of field duty and of course, "The Wall". Viet Nam was winding down Erlangen was a scary place for a new soldier back then.

Karin Thrasher:
Gerry, please get in touch with me.

AL:
The roller rink was between class six and "Blood Alley", the building is still there.

clutch:
I was in that building, first it was the 3/37, then changed to the 2/81, I was in A co.

I just found this site. Wow! I was at Ferris Barracks from 62-64 with B company, 1/35th Armor back in the days when it was the 4th Armored Division. I got pulled out of the tanks and put in the Training Aids/Armory/Supply room when they found out I could read without moving my lips.We were known as the "Bravo Buffers" because if it was a horizontal surface, it was waxed and buffed. Remember the grooves in the floors on the hallways? Just the width of a P38 C rat can opener. 1st Sgts favorite little "extra detail" was removing the oldwax and reapplying the new. While I was there it was the time of the JFK 50 mile hike craze and 3 of us, me Charlie Harper, and Mike Hamner decided to try it. The other two made it, but I collapsed after 47 miles...hey what the heck, I was used to riding in a nice track. Also remember roadmarching to Bamberg (and back)in a howling blizzard when all the other units stayed in their kasernes. The slop chute of choice was the "Reichs Adler" back then. Anybody remember that.

Richard:
Hi Doug: Do I remember the Reich's Adler? Best time of my life. Met my wife there and we have been married for 50yrs.

Walt:
MMMMMMMMM and she put up with you for fifty.

Richard:
Of course she did! How else would you want it!

Dirndl:
Hey Richard ,ask Walt how long Rose has put up him.LOL.Walt is it 53 years for you and Rose?

Richard:
Well, Walt, you heard what Dirndl is asking of you! so go ahead, I'm listening.

Walt:
Well close to it March 6th 1956 that would be 52 2009 will be 53 of course I am still a teenager by thought.

Dirndl:
Pretty darn close. Was only a few month off don`t you think Richard.Congrats to both of you Walt & Richard for keeping your wifes happy for so long

If anyone knows of a way to find any records, birth, death, land, or other, please email me what ever you have. I planto visit soon and would like to have as much info as possible before I go. I Thank you for time and efforts with any help you might give. Even if it is a phone number or web site or address.

Wow!! I have got in touch with more people from Ferris. Raney, I see Sabine here, Allred and I got in touch with each other again. Mathew and I stay in touch. Bill Freeman and Ronnie Freeman, Murphy, Seau, Munoz, where are they all?

I miss Cco 2/6. Wife and I are talking about going back over there in the next year or so. Man that would be great.

Sabine Raney:
Hi David
Yeah would be nice to find more old buddies from 2/6. I have a Myspace side only for Ferris barracks members. Have Mathew as my Friend. I 's still looking for more. I'm in touch with Sgt Mauldins wife, they live in NC.We write each other. we also had contact with Lucas for awhile, he was in NC also. Hey stay in touch !!

David:
Sabine;

Did you get my email I sent you? If not, email me. Kelly Allred lives in AZ too and he was Cco 2/6.

Roberto Huezo:
Hey David, hi Sabine:
I'm Huezo, back then Sgt-Ssg Huezo. I stayed in Germany and now live in Nürnberg. In December we'll be moving to our new house, guess where, in Fürth Darby Kaserne. The Germans bought it and have turn it into a nice neighborhood with a huge park in the middle...When are you coming to Germany David? Here is my cell, call me when you get here: +40 (0) 172 859 2010

Roberto Huezo:
I meant, of course, Germany +49 (0) 172 859 2010

Jeff Tobias-Romeoville Il:

Also, if anyone knows where I can find service records for WW2 era German soldiers as I am trying to do some genealogy on my maternal (German) side of the family and my grandfather was an officer in the German Army in WWII. He was from Furth which is close to Erlangen but I believe he was Austrian originally.

Barring congressional action (HR 2785), the Medicare payment rate to physicians will be reduced by 10.6% in July of 2008. This directly affects TRICARE beneficiaries because TRICARE payment rate is based upon Medicare's sustainable growth rate (SGR) update formula. This means that doctors will be forced to accept less money for medical procedures. In the past these reductions have caused doctors to turn away TRICARE patients and will likely do so again if the reduced payment rates are not blocked.

This issue will adversely affect survivors, retirees, members of the active-duty, Guard and reserve and their families, especially those living far from military installations. There are already some doctors in remote areas who refuse to see new TRICARE patients. Without congressional action to ensure these cuts don?t take effect, more doctors may chose to turn TRICARE beneficiaries away.

I am looking for a Lawrence Stengel who served in Erlangen around the year 1962. Does anyone have any information or ideas where to start my search for this man? Please email me personally.

Please, any help at all.

Richard:
HiThere: Do you know where he lived before he went into the service?
Go to White Pages and start there. Would you know his approx. ge.??

Richard:
Hi Tabetha: I looked up his name on White Pages, in case you hadn't. There are 12 people listed in the U.S. with that name.

Tim Lentz:
There is no file in department of defense for Lawrence Stengel. Do you have correct spelling?

Hi Richard! May I ask you where your wife is exactly from? When I was a child I often played in the empty buildings, but today almost all the barracks are torn off! What a shame!

Dirndl:
@ Julius
I grew up in the Woehrstr.9.What is your Fathers name. There where 3 families with the lastname Huettner. One Huettner is married to Richard. Two others families lived on Silberhorn property

Julius:
My Father's name is Werner Hüttner! The names of my grandparents are Johanna Hüttner and Robert Hüttner, but they are both dead now. My Grandmother passed away this morning 8:20 MESZ, RIP...

Richard:
Hi Julius: Sorry to hear that your Grandma passed away yesterday.
What was your grandma's maiden name. I have met Robert's brother's wife. My wife said that she use to play with her when they were children. My wife called her Hanna. Your grandpa was in World War II. Hanna showed my wife how to make May Baskets, she worked for the Kinder schule and was considered a big sister to my wife. Hanna and her future husband Robert worked at Siemens and walked arm in arm pushing the bicycle.

Julius:
Thats right! She was called Hanna, her full name was Johanna! I really loved her..and I'll always remember the time I have had with her, may she rest in peace! My grandfather Robert died almost exactly one year earlier.

Karin Thrasher:
Richard, what have I missed as long as we were at the Ferris Barracks Reunion? Do I know them?
Write to me.
Karin

Richard:
Hi karin: Yes, you missed a great story. Julius is the grandson of the Painter(Huttner) who was your neighbor on Wohrstr. and directly next door to my wife.

I remember your family as I grew up in the Woehrstrasse and I remember playing with one of the Huettner's girls.
What brought you to the Sates?

Richard:
Hi Karin: Julius Huttner doesn't live in the U.S. He lives in Erlangen and is a student. His grandma's name was Hanna Assmann.

Hi there! I discovered this stuff about the old barracks today and it's very important for me to find more pictures of the whole area. I'm a german pupil, I live in Erlangen near the former "Ferris Barracks". I was born in 1989, so I sadly never had the chance to witness this special time. I only want to get some old pictures of the local training area in Tennenlohe, the so called "Stoübpl Tennenlohe". I hope you can help me!

Thanks in advance!

Julius

Richard:
Hi Julius: Drop a line to us. I was stationed in Erlangen in '57 and married a german girl. We were in Erlangen in Sept./Oct. of last year.

I am hoping I might get lucky and get a hit on this, but I'm not holding my breath. There were 2 teenage girls that used to come hang out at the pils eckla when I was stationed there. They invited me to there grandparents house for Thanksgiving, ity was 1983. I agreed to come only if I could buy the turkey. The grandparents only request was that I wear my "best uniform". I bought the turkey and met one of the girls in town and she took it home. Thanksgiving day I arrived at the apartment only to find half a turkey cooked. I pulled one of the girls aside and said that I didnt want to be rude but where was the other half. She grabbed my arm and took me into the kitchen. As soon as I saw the oven I knew why. The turkey I bought was huuuugggggeee and there oven was half the size of what I was used to. So if either of you 2 girls come across this post( sorry I dont remember names, but I have photos) please email me because I still think of that every year when we have turkey. The only name I remember is they hung out with a guy they called whiskey.

What dose a mug of bier go for this year? In the 60's it was 2DM, at the time we got 4.20DM to the dollar Bill Stewart

Richard Reed:
Hey Bill, I don't remember what the cost was in the late 50's but probably around the 2DM when our dollar would give you 4.20Dm even then. Cigarettes were .90 a carton on the ship coming over and 1.20 a carton at the PX, I know for sure that a bottle of beer at the Reich's Adler was 1Dm

Sabine Raney:
Okay,Guys
You Better drink a couple Mass for me.
I'm sweating here in AZ.
I'm from Germany and my Family always went every Year to The Berg. Was a Family Tratition.
Drank some Beer, had Brats, Prezels...HMMMMMMM.

I miss it alot

Martin:
I went to the fest this year on the last Thurday with my wife. Her first trip out of the US ever. Man was it ever crowded. It threatened rain on Friday so we didn't go back. The town sure has changed.
We went to Rothenberg, Gossweinstein, Bad Durkhiem, Fussen, Weltenberg and Nuremberg on our trip. The beer and wine are so much better when they are fresh. I never realized how much I missed the food too.

Looking for members of Bco 2/6 INF 90-92...God i love looking back at my old pics from there. Brings back alot of good memories. By the way how do u upload pics? I have a few and would like to share them.

Walt Broadwell:
Goto the photo section and click upload photos very simple follow instructions

Richard Reed:
Hi Walt: I sent an email to yo esterday to ask Eddie, why can't click on PHOTOS? It won't allow me to do so.

Walt:
As nice as the site is it appears that it's running it'self. All my emails must go to trash can as I get no answers from anyone. Was going to donate but until I find out whats going on no way. I could care less about Nurnberg.

AL:
I know what you mean, I donated over a month ago and still nothing about it in the donations page. Autopilot sucks!

Richard:
Its quite evident that no one is monitoring the website.

LiveinFerris:
Ya, you can tell by all the spam that`s coming back to the website.........Eddie is MIA as of late????

Richard:
Hey livein Erlangen. Anyone there from the 720th?

Eddie:
That's not monitoring the website. It's monitoring the WEBSITES. There are a total of 14 websites in the area. I have to keep up with the guest books in every site plus the message boards.

In the mean time I have to run 4 sites selling t-shirts and caps just to have enough money to keep these sites going. I also have to make all the shirts myself and ship them.

I get on the average of 900 emails a day on these sites. Most are spam, but I have to pick through them to find the real ones.

If I have 10 wanting their name put on the roster, the very next day 5 of them want to change their email address. That's not even counting the ones that sign up on the message board and then the very next day they don't know their password.

But I'm moving along slowly but surely.

Walt:
Thanks Eddie I was not aware you were controling all the other sites> I thought they were other links to go to. You have a job.If you need help let me know.

Liveinferris:
Not that I know of, but I`ll ask around..........

AL:
I didn't mean to piss you off Eddie, I realize your plate is full. I come to this site almost every day and when I tried yesterday and only got your message I was depressed. Thanks a million for getting the site running again and for all that you do. Too bad everyone dosen't put their money where their mouth is! DONATE!!!!!!

I was a kid in Ferris Barracks from 81-84 or so. Went to the American elementary school, first-third grade. My dad is DJ Peters, he was LTC, CO of 2/81 armor. I still have a Red Lion (Plank Brau) beer mug.

For any of you still in Erlangen. I was stationed with a E-5 named Joseph Pearage or Parrish that got a out and stayed in Erlangen. He was from Pennslyvania and a regular at Pils Eckla when jimmy owned it.

LiveinFerris:
Believe it or not, Joe is still here in Erlangen. I couldn´t find his phone number, but here is his address....Joe Pearage
Stintzing str.4

I`ll still try to get his number for you...I stopped by his place yesterday, but he wasn´t home...Good luck with this.

I went for a visit last November. I took some pics, had some Kitzmann beer. The interesting thing it was exactly 20 years before that I met my now ex-wife there. The memories of friends and the past brought tears to my eyes and reminded me that the best time in my life was there, on Gate 1 gaurd duty, in the Pizza Bar, walking to McDonalds, drinking in B-15, BN runs through the training area, my first love.

I was climbing up St. Augustine, FL Lighthouse around Christmas and ran into a woman wearing a 1ST BN. 46th INF T- shirt. Having served at Ferris Bks. From 73'-75',HHC&CSC, 1/46th INF, I was quite suprised. I asked about the shirt, and she said it was her son's, from Ft. Knox, as she walked down and I walked up the stairs. That's it. I would have liked to talk to her longer, but the traffic in the Lighthouse would not permit it.... Erlangen was great, I hated Guard Duty at the NATO AMMO DUMP!

Even though I was not there as long as some of you others, I have great memories of fellow soldiers, people around town and some of the places I hung out at..even Bogart's when for some reason or another I was told once that no American's were allowed! I told them Bogie was an American and he would be offended. Other than a minor mishap or so..what a great time! Can you say Strawberry Fest?? If there are any people from 2/70 who would like to contact me..it would be great to hear how you all are!! I left Dec. 1990

3/24/08

I was stationed at Ferris Barracks in Erlangen, Germany from 1958 to 1960 in
4th Armor, A Company, 1st Platoon as a certified tank driver. In A Company's
mess hall I painted a picture of Sad Sac walking down a hill checking for mines on the road with a metal detector. Tanks
were behind him. Thought someone might have seen it on the wall.
I am looking for a list of names of people that were in this A Company 1st Platoon. I would like to look up some of these buddies from the good old Army days. There was never a reunion that I was ever aware of. If anyone knows how to find this listing of the names in A Company 1st Platoon or knows where this record could be accessed please let me know.
Thanks You can E-mail me.
Jim

Spent 6 months here w/ the 48th AAA, from July '53 to Dec '53 & then went TDY to Wurtzburg for 53 wks to join 1st DivArty to play basketball -- what a trip that was. Hey somebody had to do it!

Was impressed by the super construction of German billets & friendliness of folks downtown.

After 37 years I am hanging up the uniform. Thanks to all of the soldiers in 1/46, 2/6 and 47th SB. You made my life fun being in Erlangen. Thanks again to Hagler, Banisch, Weisman, McCarthy for being super battalion commanders. :-)

Joe Poplin:
Everett,

You didn't happend to be in C 1/46 around 1973 - 1974 did you?

Everett:
Joe,
I was there and still here. I luve in Dechsendorf. I will be going to Tampa Fl next month and retire.

Joe Newcomb:
Didn't LCOL Weisman have a picture of himself in Russian regalia because we were tasked at OPFOR once?

COL (R) Ronnie D. Johnson:
Chief, I served in 1-46 and 2-6 with you. Ron Johnson. Was in B-1-46 as a platoon leader and later commanded E Co. 2-6. I just retired after 32 years myself. Living in Gonzales, La. Hope you enjoy retirement.

Roberto Huezo:
Hi Mark, I was stationed in C 2/6 from October 85 to June 92. What company were you in? If you patroled the border, then you were probably a scout in HHQ 2/6. Remember Genesis, B15's, Funnies, Paisley Park, etc...? I got an European-Out and stayed here. I live in Nuernberg but my In-laws live in ER so I go there a lot...

Hello to all. I served at Ferris from 87 thru 89 with B company 2/37 Armor. Just wondering if anyone was still around. I kept in touch with a couple of guys but most are only good memories. For those of you who remember him, Norman StMaria died a few years back in a motorcycle accident. His wife, who he met in Erlangen was the passenger and she also died. Gorge, Eddie, Jim and all the rest from the group, if your still out there whrite a message.

Ernesto Scarpitti:
Heck, it was so long ago I forget myself, it was actually 1/35 Armor. I was in the 2nd Armored later. Sorry.

Hello everybody,
I just found this page and was hoping someone could help me.
I have finally made it to gather some information about my grandfather and I am looking for him now. It would be awesome to finally get to know about my roots.
His name is Milton C. Jones and he was stationed in Schwabach somewhen in between 1954 - 1956. Any info would be greatly appreciated!! My E-Mail is shorty_e84@yahoo.de
Thank you all very much in advance!!!
Manuela

Richard Reed:
Hi There: You could not have picked one of the most common named in the U.S. Do you know what state he originated from? He would probably be in his 70's by this time. Did he pursue a military career?

Manuela:
Hi Richard,
thanks for your reply!
Yes, unfortunately it's a very common name... Just like mines - Meyer... ;o(
Unfortunately I do not have any further info about him at all... He's supposed to be from the south... But that's quite a few states also ;o( Any ideas on how I might be able to find him?

First came to Ansbach in 59 and moved to Erlangen shortly after. Worked for 3 years in the Computer Van, then 1 year in the Doppler Van. Went stateside in Sept 63 to re-train as Calibration Tech, made SP6 in 63 in the 81st and SFC in Aberdeen, MD in 66. Made Captain in 69 and went to VN, got out in 75. Was back in Germany in 67-69 in Mainheim. Retired now and loving life, travel a lot and enjoy family.

Roger Pointer:
Tom,It sounds like you had a full military life. I remember you
flying around Erlangen in that black Mercedes. Its good to hear
alls well with you.

Richard Reed:
Hi Tom: I sent an email to you shortly after I read you military life story. I was stationed in Erlangen just before you arrived. Did you receive my email?

For all who used to go to the EM/NCO/OFFICERS Clubs:

My two bands ("Six Pack" and "Gordy Thomas and CREW") used to play all around Southern Bavaria.

I've written a lot of songs since then, and anyone is welcome to download the free .mp3 files listed on my site at gordythomas.com please disregard the fact that there are also song files for sale on the page, as it is not my intent to get you to buy anything. I just thought some of the FOB (Friends of The Bands) might be interested in hearing what I've been doing in Nashville.

And to all combat veterans, "Welcome Home!"

Request that anyone having any kind of contact to the Admin. people of this site please inform them I am STILL waiting to hear from them re: Unit photo of the 2nd Plt. 501st. MP co. dtd. 1976. I sent the photo two weeks ago, and emailed them last friday and still nothing.

Doug Schnider 569th PSC:
Sounds to me like you need a little bit of that good Bavarian cheese to go with your w(h)ine.

Dennis R. Ennis:
After the laugh you gave me with your "old" saying and your idiotic comment you remind me Mr. Schnider of the 569th. of the ignorant soldier who use to be an embarrassment to the representation of the US Military and why you were like the individuals that I threw in jail. If you don't have anything intelligent to say then I suggest that you keep your mouth closed and errase all doubt that you are an idiot. Have a good day.

Doug Schnider 569th PSC:
Dennis:
For your information, my original duty station was HQ'S 793rd MP in Fuerth.

I just wanted to let you know that you made 5 grammatical errors and 3 spelling errors on your most recent comment. That's not bad. However, I don't believe you would be able to pass even the entry level exam to become a member of the "Fighting 569th" with such a lack of basic English language skills. Have a great day, and enjoy your Chablis.

Kurt VonRift:
Damn Dennis, ya just asked a simple question and some piss ant had to just pop in. Oh well I'll look him up & see if I cann't educate him with some manners.

Steve Mead:
Hey Dennis don't worry about those that could not hang with the M.P.s. There is a reason he left them. I also have some pictures to send in that you may want to be looking for. As a matter of fact you might be in them. Was there from 76-78 with the 793rd. I am looking forward to the picture you posted when it finally gets there.

Was stationed in Herzo, but worked with two guys at the post office in Milwaukee who were stationed on Ferris Barracks. One still works at the post office , but the other guy passed away in 1994.

Richard Reed:
When were those two fellows stationed at Erlangen? I have a couplle of friends who now are retired school teachers from Milwaukee who served at Ferris Barracks.
By the way, I drove through Herzo Base last Sept. and you probably already know that almost everything has been torn down. Guess I forgot, I was stationed at Ferris also.

HELLO everyone.Been to Ferris Barracks, many times.Going again end off Jan.2008.Many off the great people from all walks of life, and the memories.Using the jeep including the Driver to meet other Friends at a guesthouse.Fun most off the people never will understand, just to write about it would get me in trouble. But few off you know the amazing fun we all had,Garmisch differend tours to the Eagles Nest.Ore the beerfest, when a Beer Mug bacame a Inprint on anothers soldiers face in a Brawl.MPs, Job was, to pick drunks up and trow them into the back off a Dozen1/2.Blood Alley between the Nco club and 1/81.Ferris Barracks was not only a Millitary Istallation. It was a HUB,to get the best Beer the next Guesthouse, waiting for weekends to do it all over again.I guess it was the Start for my Life to travel the world. And I have Traveled.there are many soldiers I wish I could find out what happend to them.Like sgt Rodriquezwho married Mimmi from Viet nam.Ore Rivera from New york, ore the medic from Long Island etc.I can only wonder now.My son has his 2nd duty to Bagdad.from fort dix N.Jersey.And Im a girl from Erlangen. Now try to figure this outWorked in special sevices.as a german citicen, even teachimg classes in Head Start. And teachingTank Maintnance for some off the 1/37 Armore Div.That can only happen in Ferris Barrack.Plus the Service Club.Any of you who been there.Knows the great times.Hello to all of you Vets ;-)

I used to hang out at Genises all the time, it does not exist anymore, instead there is Bar called Intermezzo. I remember B52, when ever the night was boring, you just needed to go to B52 to watch the fights and the night was saved. How about Funnies, did you ever go there? Thanx for the web-site. Always looking for jogs to the memory.

I was stationed with 2nd Platoon, Company C, 793rd MP Bn in Erlangen from September 1974 thru September 1977. Left as platoon sergeant. Lots of good memories. Good duty. Good times.

Recently I went to Google Earth and found Ferris Barracks on the satellite. Lots of changes since I was there and since the locals took over - but I can still see the old base.

paul brown:
glad to see someone from my era there,12/74-10-77,B1/35

Steve Mead:
Hey Sarge, how the heck are you. You may not remember me but since you were one of my first "real" Sgts, I remember you. This actually was one of the past times I had in my 6 years. SFC English was there and Lt Fornier. Take care.

I was in D CO 1/35 from 89-91, went to Desert Storm with 1st Sgt Busbee and Capt. Kevenaar.

Are there any other 1/35 guys out there?? I was the guy who caught the dumpster on fire one night with Armanderez... Nothing like doing a fire dance around a garbage can. I'm still not sure how I eeked my way out of an article 15 on that one. :-)

I could really go for some pomme frittes and mayo right now.

Cheers,

What a wonderful website! My father was stationed at Ferris 1970-71 - LTC John Dure. Many fond memories of AYA dances, the long bus rides to Nurnburg HS, walks to the snack bar and the theatre. Anyone know what happened to the cute lifeguards at the pool? - Ron, Dennis, Charlie? Life in Germany was wonderful and I have many good memories being an Army brat!

I was stationed in Erlangen from November 1953 to April 1955. This was very good duty. Came home as a Sgt. in charge of the communication section of C Battery of the 3oth Field Artillery.
In Septermber of 1990 my wife, daughter and myself went back to Germany and drove to Erlangen to see if we could see the base. We drove up to the gate and I asked the gaurd if we could drive in and look around? He said why and I told him I had been on the base for 1.5 years, his comment, why would you ever want to come back and see this place. He let us on, the base had really changed our barricks and motor pool were all gone.

I was stationed in Erlangen, Germany first with Aco 2/81st armor and after a while we were redesignated to 4/70th armor. I had some great times there, both on and off base. the pizza bar is a place I still miss to this day along with the sub sandwiches i got at the video rental. I loved walking down town with the wonderful architecture and history. I had a blast there and in Hoenfeltz and Grafenvere. I miss it a lot.

Hello All,
This is a wonderful site (Thanks). I served from Dec. 1985 to 1987 in B Co. 3-34 Armor. I'm sad to hear that the base is gone. I hope someone will consider planning a grand reunion of soldiers who served there. I would love to return for something like that.

SGT Ivan Justiniano:
How you doing... I served in 3/34 on that time also. I was a medic assigned to HHQ, HHQ Co., and A Co. I was a SPC back then [SPC Justiniano]. Hoping to hear from more people from 3/34, years 85' to 87'

Kevin:
Kevin,
Did you know a Curt Roberts i believe he was an E-5?

Kevin Salzman:
By the way I was with A co 2/6, I knew Roberts wife Pia..

Kevin J. Price:
Hello Fellas - Thanks for the feedback. No, I don't remember Robert, but I may by face. I wonder what happended to all of those pictures we took each year and hung on the walls. It would be a shame if no one documented those pictures.

Hello All,
I am a Military Brat that loved living on Ferris Barracks. My father was stationed there from '88 to '91. I was one of the few kids who learned Karate on base. I missed playing at the Y, the mobile burger king, the movie theater, even the Erlangan Elementary School and most importantly the community. If anyone remembers the Karate Studio (Sei Ryoku Zen Yo), with Raymond Hawkins and Ron or any of the kids from the nieghborhood please let me know. I would love to catch up.

I love Erlangen. I lived there from 1965 until 1975. My grandmother "Annie"
and grandfather "Robert" worked at the movie theater at Ferris Barracks. They made the popcorn and later sold sandwiches. They called my grandmother "Popcorn Annie". I spent many days helping them. I also attended Erlangen Elemantary for a few months. I remember walking from the snack bar to the theater not matter what the weather was like. It broke my heart when they closed Ferris Barracks. I did visit there a few years back and it sure has changed. :-)

I was in 2/81 from 77 to 79. I'll be returning to Germany and expect to stop by Erlangen for the fest next year. Anybody have a recommendation for hotel in Erlangen?
Kevin R.& Mark C. - if you're out there drop me a line.

LiveinFerris:
Go to the German Link page on this site. There you will find a couple hotel`s located close to the old barracks and not too far from the Fest.
