Hi, I was wondering if anyone remembers Gisbert Karl Metzig. He was stationed in the Army as an SP4 in Feucht or Nuernberg in the late 50's. He died in 1960. I was two when he died; I never knew him. Is there anyone out there that remembers him? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I lived in Feucht until 1974; I actually met some guys that were stationed there in the early 70's. One of them was David, just can't remember his last name. We used to go partying at this one popular club, just can't remember the name of that either. Thank you and bye!

Assigned E Co 3/58th Avn in the tower 71L to SFC Hulit from Nov 1987 to Aug 1988. I loved flying in the helicopters. It was a blast working on Feucht and living on the German economy. They moved me up to Grafenwoehr Aug 1989 and I got out of the military in Dec 1990. I moved back to Texas summer of 1993, been here ever since. I now work for the wounded warriors on Ft. Hood as a GS Civilian.

Goodkin,

Death rides a pogostick, as I recall what us Savage troopers used to say. I was at FAAF for 1989-1991 period, shipped over to Desert Storm/Shield with "Little Buddy 6" as CO. Things I remember about FAAF? Sgt. Powell was the biggest a**hole I ever met, and Rich Henry getting us arrested by the polizei. That, and the Irish Pub where I first learned to love tequila and Guinness. I wonder what ever happened to my little blue Ford Taunus...I never knew a 1.6 L engine could do 193 km/hr on the way to Rotenburg!

My father, Jim Floyd, worked at FAAF from 74-77 as AVSCOM Tech Rep for OH-58s. We lived in the Pastorius housing area. As a teen, I camped and visited at FAAF and for some weird reason I can still remember the burgers from the vending machines! Dad retired and lives near me here in Owensboro, KY.

T.I. Shop knew me as keebler. Was stationed at FAAF 1979-1982. Maintenance Aircraft Crew chief. ACTF 69-15609. Was on the Airfield gaurd with the guys who had the infiltrator. Enjoyed the company of the airfield commander Captain Simon Apparicio " I appreaciate you" was the way we pronounced. Remember the football bame in front of ops. Tackled the biggest guy in the hangar, Chestnut. Was sickened when I seen what happened to FAAF. Well am supporting the Reserves by working flight simulation. Feel free to find me on facebook.

John M Walker:
As OIC range officer, Captain Simon Apparicio evaluated my tank platoon in 1982 in Grafenwöhr Germany. Simon Apparicio's report (we aced Platoon Tank Table IX) is signed and the only framed document in my office. Our platoon leader was 1LT Brick Miller, platoon sergeant SFC Rogers. For 28 years I've maintained that scorecard as my 'Springsteen Glory Days' moment. I hope one day to cross paths again... with any of these fine gentlemen.

John Lopez:
Hey Dennis,
Do you have any pictures from those days back at the airfield or any of the guys I would love to get a copy would you mind emailing me some?

Dennis "shake" Baker:
Sorry John, I'm afraid I don't. I used to, and they were all in my basement, and then we had a bad flood in 2006 in the village where I live (just west of Nürnberg). A lot of memories were destroyed.

I work at the Nürnberg Airport. Are you still in the aviation business?

John lopez:
Hey Dennis,
I'm not I tried to get my A & P

Dennis "shake" Baker:
Yes, we DID work in the same building. Yes, I DO remember you. We had that small hangar (now a tire shop) to the west of the main hangar (now belongs to the Nürnberg Symphonie).

I also remember Jeff Grimes, and several others, but we're all scattered over the world!

John Lopez:
Good Evening Dennis 12Midnight here in New York that would be about 6 AM in your part of the world, it must feel weird that everybody left to go back home and you are still there, working the very same hangar and airport that we had some many memories can you please give me your email I tried sending my picture to your email and it bounced back

John Lopez:
I'm so lost with names I want to remember what you look like so bad even if you send me a picture from 20 years ago that would be ok

Hallo, I was born and raised in Feucht; I moved to the U.S. when I was a teenager in 1974. I'm trying to find out information about my father that passed away when I was around two years old; I think he died anywhere between 1959 and 1961. He was in the German Army. His name was Gisbert Karl Metzig and he would have been 19 or so years of age when he passed away. I know nothing about him and I would like to find out anything I possibly can. If there is anyone out there that may have known him or has information, I would be so happy. Since I don't have enough information about him all of my internet searches have come up empty. Thank you

Hey troops! I was there in AVUM Trp, 2CAS, 2ACR, from Jan. 1984 'til Feb. 1986, in the Engine Shop with Jerry Ramirez, Joel Bales, Andy Agar, and dozens of others from Allied Shops.

I got out in 1990, and still live in the Nürnberg area, and work at the Nürnberg Airport.

There is absolutely nothing left of the Nürnberg Military Area as we knew it. Feucht Airfield is primarily a freight sorting building from the post office, the runway has been torn out, the hangar belongs to the Nürnberg Symphony, and our small shops hangar is a tire shop, and the barracks there are full of immagrants. Merrill Barracks has been remodelled (looks good), and the main builing belongs to the German political system. The rest has been torn down, and other things built on the property.

It would be great to hear from anyone from FAAF and the Cav, so drop me a line!

Best regards to all! Always Ready Sir!
Dennis Baker

D. Baker:
p.s. Does anyone know the whereabouts of Kevin McCarthy (my son is named after him), and Milton Vila, and Acey Mixon? all good friends from the '80s!

Hey Baker, I used to run with Vila, Kevin and Horan. Been a long time. My name is James Ryan. I was there Aug.83 till Aug. 85

D. Baker:

Great site. Seeing pictures of the airfield is really great. I was with the 2d ACR July 67 till Oct 68. In 1967 the airfield was still in the old location (a mile from M Barracks, near the lake & coliseum. The runway was used for other purposes from 1935-1945). The West German govt built FAAF to get us out of there because our aircraft made too much noise (especially on week ends and alerts). We had to clear out by midnight 12/31/1967. The word was that the mayor of Nurnberg had made an election promise to have the ARMEE out there before the New Year and to keep the natives happy we spent the last week of December 1967 moving our aircraft: 9 O-1, 2 U-6, 5 H-34, 4 UH-1 and equipment to the just completed FAAF. Several aircraft were flown on "test flight", luckily they made it and put back on red X again. Does any one have pictures of the old location to post ?

I was an Air Force Weather Observer, stationed at Feucht AAF from July 1974 through July 1977, working under the "3rd Major of the Detachment", Major Larry Wallace (known by many to be "a Marine in an Air Force Uniform"!). At that time, Col Hudachek was "the Colonol of the Regiment" and the accent was upon numerous field training exercises involving the Combat Support Troop (UH-1s) and the Attack Helicopter Troop (Cobras). As my unit's Tactical Training NCO, I was in charge of "Nimbus" (our APC), along with a couple of "grunts" (a Track Vehicle Driver and a Radio Teletype Operator). The copter pilots will remember the colorful presentations of TSgt Robert Hall (one of our Weather Forecasters).

Served at FAAF during and just after Desert Storm (1990-1991) as a Captain assigned first to the S-3 (MAJ MacDonald) and then as the Nomad Troop Commander during the drawdown. Served with some great pilots and crewchiefs. Still have the unopened bottle that the Warrent Officers gave me at our drawdown party. I keep hoping to drink it with some of those good men someday.

I was stationed with the 2ACR from '85 to Dec '87. Roles I played was assistant S3, S3, and Echo (later renamed Outlaw) Cav Troop Commander. I loved that assignment. Great flying along the Iron Curtain, super cavalry troopers "Always Ready." Broke my leg sliding into second base at a unit softball game. CSM Carmichael, Bill Compton and Manny Mejias, where are you guys? I'm now retired (LTC) and living and working in Green Bay.

Bill Crowley:
Hey Rick! I still think of the time you got up and sang with the band at the Regtl Ball...busted out a killer version of "Me & Mrs Jones." Good times.....

I've never beeen there...but my ancesters are from Germany. I've often wondered if the town was named for our family. As I understand it...the family sold thier grist mill (family biz) and fled the country. Landed in Wisconsin, from there we spread out to the west. There are still folks in Wisconsin too. If anyone knows any more please let me know.

Hello All!

What a blast to find this web page!! I was at FAAF from Aug 85 - Feb 87. Man, that was a great time! I was in AVUM, worked on Cobra's. Anyone else remember these names? "Jimmy Evans, Marc Davis, "Downtown Brown, Paul Zonghetti, Robert Mitchell, Christian Walker, Paul Lavoy, Rodney St. Peter, Allen Holcomb".. man, I could go on for DAYS!! How about the "Green Goose!!" I STILL have my card!!

I'd love to hear from anyone that was there at the same time.

Very best regards to all,

Jon Crawford

Was stationed at Feucht from June of 87 until April of 91. Assigned to Delta/Nomad Troop during that time as a Cobra Pilot. Enjoyed flying the Hof sector and catching the occasional Mi-24 and the rare footprints in the snow coming over the fence to our side. Lots of great memories while at Feucht and the wonderful countryside from the air!

While the skills acclimatized to earn them are certainly powerful, it is the unrevealed system lower down that transforms the bracelets from sheer jewelry into stories.
In this pack, the copper old for the bracelets was indeed the outer jacket of a 155mm artillery hull — the remnants of war, unfortunately, that are as much a section of Cambodia's recital as Angkor Wat.
What has happened here has a warm-hearted of virtuoso to its elemental beauty. Etching the patterns of the primeval last alters the figurative patterns of Cambodia's more just out and upsetting prior into something sure: skills and incomes for victims of genocidal conflict.

I was assigned to Air Troop of the 2ACR. I was a CWO helicopter pilot right from Viet Nam, served at Feucht from 1970 to 1971. I flew the Hof section of the border. Being single I got a lot of weekend duty, so to reduce the boredom I would climb to 10,000'+ and wander around the sky pretending I was lost; the 'Reds' would scramble a pair of MIGs hoping to intercept me if I crossed the border but just before the border I would drop straight down to 50' and start my patrol. What the heck, if I had to fly weekends why not them!!!! My callsign was Firebird 17. It was a wild and crazy time. I had a ration card for gas, booze and smokes; Americam Bourbon was great to barter with. Had my old second hand VW fixed for three bottles of cheap bourbon.

I have never worked with a better bunch of folks then I did during my four years in the 4/2 ACR. I'll never forget them, or Feucht. Hands down we were the best of the best in Army Aviation !!

I worked in the PAC office from 85-88. Hung
out with the alcohol, rock house, green goose crowd. Main buddies were the Pisos,
Brotherton and Parkison from S-4 and G-Man(Gicherio) from one of the great Troops, and Dan Evans from PAC.

I miss those days.

For all who used to go to the EM/NCO/OFFICERS Clubs:

My two bands ("Six Pack" and "Gordy Thomas and CREW") used to play all around Southern Bavaria.

I've written a lot of songs since then, and anyone is welcome to download the free .mp3 files listed on my site at gordythomas.com please disregard the fact that there are also song files for sale on the page, as it is not my intent to get you to buy anything. I just thought some of the FOB (Friends of The Bands) might be interested in hearing what I've been doing in Nashville.

And to all combat veterans, "Welcome Home!"

I was a platoon leader in Air Troop from July 1976 to September 1978; Redcatcher 15. That was a great time.

John Ballard, SFC (Ret):
We probably remember many of the same people. Bill Baril was the first Operations Sgt for Air Troop after the split. I was his counterpart in CST. You probably remember MAJ Downs. He made LTC and I worked for him in the ADAO Office at Ft. Campbell before he went over to G-3. You might remember Vernon Childers he was in Air Troop in 76 and went to Ft. Campbell and retired.

Keith Davey, CW4 Retired:
Hi Chad- I was a OH-58 instructor pilot at FAAF 76 - 79 (Redcatcher 58), and did morning Threat presentations for the pilot briefing. After all these years, it's tuff to remember names, but what a great place in the late 70s.

John Crepeau:
Support Troop (scouts) June 77 to Aug 80. would not change a thing, Was a crew chief 58's and after going down in 69-16300 during reforger decided it was time to go to flight school. best decicion i ever made CW4 (ret) 25 yrs

I was with the 2nd ACR from May 1979 through September 1982. Looking for Michael Schilling (from Arizona), Pineapple (Crew Chief AH1), Parkinson (motor pool 2nd ACR), James Walker (crew chief US-1 and musician), Frog (from Atlanta), and anyone who frequented Tasos.

I had been stationed at Feucht Army Airfield from January 1979 to August 1980 assigned to the 240th ATC Co. duty as control tower operator. I had been billeted at Merrell Barracks during that period of time with a view overlooking the intersection of Allersberger str and Franken str. It was a still a great place to be with memeries that I will never forget. I'd like to hear from anybody that was stationed there during that period of time.

I spent two years of my life on the airfield. Enjoyed it very much. Lived at Merrell barracks. I was stationed there from Aug. 83- Aug. 85. Anybody else there then, give me a yell.
