My son, Sean Aaron Stafford, was born there on 05NOV76. All
delivery rooms were in use.(Induced labor for officer's wives, I
was told.) My wife, Carol Jean Stafford, gave birth in a
recovery room with the assistance of a nurse. I wish I knew her
name! All went well. No anesthesia and no doctor. A MD did come
by later and looked in on my wife and son. Total time from
entering the hospital to giving birth was less than an hour.
Guess we took the staff by surprise. (?) Thanks to that fine
calm and confident nurse!

Wowza! The pictures blew me away! My father was Captain Kerr, a
young ophthmalogist. We lived in the building just inside of the
front gate. I remember playing in the landing field, and when
the heliocopters would come, we would wait them out by climbing
the trees. One day I was showing off riding my bicycle for the
recuperating guys who cheered me on. My pants got caught in the
chain and I crashed. Some guy came running out and cut my pants
with a big switchblade knifeto free me- he has been a hero in my
mind for over 40 years now! God bless everyone who has served
our country!

I was stationed at the hospital in Nuremberg, from March 1949
until October 1951 when we were sent to Kornwestheim, Germany. I
returned to the States in May of 1952. I was a Lab Tech, but
spent most of the time there playing basketball. We were
runnerups in the Company level 7th Army Championship playoffs. I
have a picture of the Nurnberg hospital as in stood at the end
of 1945 fighting. The center of the hosppital took a bomb right
down the center where the red cross was painted.
The Nurenberg hospital became the 15th Evacuation Hospital in
the summer of 1949.

I entered an inquiry on the Ferris Barracks website asking for
help from any of fellow soldiers who served there. I am having
difficulty with the VA about my application for disability.
After waiting and paper work for a year they now(VA)tells me my
records burned in a fire around 1970. I understand that a fire
aat the Record Center in St. Louis is a fact.
The VA now stated to me yesterday that I need to reconstruct my
record and guess what? I have nothing. Firstly, they tell me
that they have nothing to tell them that a Station 16 hospital
ever existed(later it was called station 20). They have
requested pictures of the hospital with a sign specifing that it
was called such, paper work like maybe a birth certificate or
letterhead saying it was Nurnberg Hospital and the closing date
of the hospital.
Thanks to a person emailing me the pictures of the hospital,
which will copy for them, so any of you have anything that will
help, Please email me. I would certainly apreciate your help.

I remember you and your wild and frizzy hair at the Club Medico.
I was stationed at USAHN from76-19 and worked in the ER and was
a bartender/waiter at the club. Many fond memories of that place
and was sorry to hear it had been torn down. I also drove the
bus from the hospital to Johnson Barracks to the PX and back to
the hospital after we were moved to the old MP barracks at
Johnson--best army duty I ever had. Terry Pinto, remember you as
well--you drove me and Dave Ellsworth to the airport in
Frankfurt during a driving blizzard in January of 79 so we could
make our plane home.

My Daddy was the motor pool Sargent at Nurnberg's 98th General
Hospital from 1984-1992. My mom worked in the mess hall and
later became the dietitian in those years. They were Danny and
Ann. The old hospital was a wonderful place to grow up around. I
was 6 when we arrived and 13 when we left.I loved watching the
medi-vacs landing behind Daddy's shop. EVERYONE there was like
family. Daddy would always invite all of his soldiers up to our
house for all the holidays. It was like having a legion of
brothers to grow up with.We were a HUGE family. Chris DeGenario,
Dan Salveson, Mike, Clyde Gay, Mrs. Williams and so many more. I
LOVED my childhood as an Army brat and never realized the
blessing of the life I had being around so many people that
loved and cared for my family. I'm a mother now and regret that
my daughter will never know that joy. Thanks to all of you that
made my childhood the best ever. And here's to a wonderful
hospital that took care of so many.

Hi Everybody,
it must have been somewhere between 77 -80. I used to go out

young german girl like me back then! Eat horrible food at the
messhall, go to the movies (had to stand up for the national
anthem) an thrugh all teh spooky tunnels to best of all the
Disco-club. Don't remember the DJ's name, but until today his
good-bye sentence: "You don't have to go home, but have to get
your ass out of here....." those times are gone, but memories

Sorry to see that the building is gone. I worked in Illesheim
for the social work department of Nurnberg Army Hospital from
1991-1994, and relocated to the States shortly after the
hospital was closed down. I have only wonderful memories of my
co-workers and of the military community. Now, I am privileged
to continue to serve our heroes through my job at the VA.

I was an x-ray tech at the hospital for a month in 1972 and was
sent to the clinic in Amberg for the rest of my time in Germany.
The hospital was an interesting place with violent barracks,
secret basements and lots of good people. Even the Germans tear
down cool old buildings.

great big happy place when we were there. Dad was also the
manager of the movie theatre, and we would get in to see all

Wow...my mom has been telling me about this forever!!! I was
born in this hospital on June 16, 1970. My dad was stationed at
the Herzo Base and brought my mother to Germany when he came
there from two tours in Vietnam. We stayed only a couple of
months after my birth, but it's part of a family legend!!! Along
with my mom telling me that the nurse who attended her punched
her in the stomach to help get rid of afterbirth!! I was also
told there was still a swastika in the floor of the hospital. I
don't know if that is right, but...
Apparently, it cost around 5.32 to give birth to me here!! I
sure wish things were still that way!!
I really hope to take my family here someday so we can see it
together. Nice site!!!

We were introduced by a man nicknamed 'DOC.' I was then

My husband (at one time) worked at the Hospital in Medical
Logistics (Supply), 1977-79. Anybody else from there in this
time frame?
Michael:
I was stationed at the Hospital from 1977 to 1979 with some
time spent at an outlying camp in Bayreuth. I believe I took
some pictures of the hopsital and they are somewhere in my
garage. |
Bob Jensen:
I was there 1976-1979. Greatest prank I ever saw was when
John Bross was irritating an emergency room doc, who sent
him on an errand down to Medical Supply for "fallopian
tubes". Bross ran down there and grabbed Ken Berg and
demanded all the fallopian tubes he had...Berg said, as far
as he knew, all the fallopian tubes in the hospital were in
use up on the Obstetrics Ward. Bross then ran up to the
second floor, out of breath, and literally grabbed an OB/GYN
doc and demanded fallopian tubes. The doc didn't miss a beat
"what size?"
Good times, good times. |

I was stationed with the 1st Trans. Co. in Furth 1970-72 at W.O.
Darby Kaserne.
I was sitting in the waiting room when a female Doctor rank of
Capt. came up to me and asked me some questions about what she
had noticed on my physicial condition, she went out of her way
to attend to me, she wasn't the Doctor I was supposed to see
that day.
I can only express my sincere gratitude and praise to the
Doctors, Nurses and Staff from Nurnburg Hospital.
To the female Doctor with the rank of Captain who took the time
to talk to me I say "Thank you so very much" you will never know
how much you helped and changed my life as a young man.

Ran the Hematology Secion - my son was born there in 78. The
best tour ever. I always wanted to see the place again and have
great memory's - it is a shame my son will never see the it,
except in pictures.

I was a pharmacy technician at the hospital from 1977-1979.
It was my first official military home station afer all the

Worked on the Med/Surg ward 1975-1978. Met a ton of great people
and had a great time. I am scanning some old photos of some of
the people from that time frame and will put them up on the web
as soon as they are scanned. Sorry the place was torn down there
were alot of great memories. Drop an email and say hello

|
Michael:
Hi Tom
I worked as a Pharmacy Technician from 1977-79 with some
duty in Bayreuth. I got some old pictures but there burried
somewhere in the garage. I too drove the company bus as
additional duty and spent sometime doing guard duties and CQ
after hours and weekends. The hospital food was one of the
best in my military career. |
Tom:
I have scanned quite a few photo's and will start uploading
them to my website in the near future. You may recognize
alot of them. |

Michael,

I was born in 16th Field Hospital in 1952 and my sister in 1953.
We left for the States in Dec 1953. My parents were CWO Rufus
Jones (70th Armored Field Artillery Battalion?) and Barbara
Jones. I will be visiting Nuremberg in June and was hoping to
visit the hospital but, as I see, it's no longer there. Thanks
for sharing the pictures and your memories to bring it alive for
me! Does anyone remember my parents? Also, I am searching for my
German "nanny," who as of Nov 1954 lived in Nuremberg (I have
that address) as I want so much to meet her or family. I
understand that German citizens must register each time they
move. Can anyone direct me about who to contact in Germany (and
I don't speak German) to perhaps backtrack to 1954 to locate her
or find out if/when she died? Any ideas from any of you who
lived there? Thanks again!

I found this page through Google and was elated to see news of
the old 130th General Hospital, where I served as the Chaplains
Assistant from late December 1970 to January 1972. I am glad to
know there is a Website devoted to the hospital, but sorry to
hear that it has been demolished. I do remember with great
pleasure working with Specialists James Williams (Chapel) and
Sterling Townsend (Hospital Printer) and with First Lieutenant
(I think) Patricia Wick (Nurse) to restore the fountain during
the summer of 1971. The water had been turned off and the
fountain itself had long before been turned into a planter, by
then much neglected. We got rid of all the dirt, cleaned out the
basin and pipes, found out how to get the water running again,
and had the fountain up and running in just a few days! It was a
real joy then to see the fountain back working as it was
intended to, and it is a real joy now to see that it was saved
from demolition. For most of the time that I was there, the
Chaplain was Lt. Colonel Ralph A. Mehring, who provided the
General Protestant services. The Catholic services were provided
by Father Patrick J. Fennessey, a civilian contracted priest.
From time to time, I also provided assistance for the Saturday
Seventh Day Advent Services. A highlight of my time there was
directing a touring production of "Waiting for Godot" for Army
Special Services. I think that we took the show to about six
bases over a number of weekends during March and April 1971.

Hey Emmit! I was stationed at NAH from '79 thru '81 and

Teresa's tour ended. Teresa (Terry) and Peggy were great
friends and roommates. We were sure you and Peg were getting
married. Teresa and I did, are still married and now have 2
grandkids. God, where did the time go!? You may not
remember, but you sewed me up on a couple occasions after
minor "mishaps." USAHN was a "wild and crazy" place. I found
this site on a whim while reminiscing about our army days,
the Greek bar/pizza place Ileo's and all the great people
we'd known. Sad to see it's all gone. I think I'll get out
some of the pics from back then and upload them to the site.

OK, Lots of memories (good and bad)of the 130th where I served

who I am to having worked with a lot of awesome, caring
professionals, who I served with from 72-75. To all of you PEACE
ALWAYS! I still have nightmares of freezing my butt off in the

This is so neat to see this! I was born in the Nurnberg Army

pictures of the hospital before it was tore down. If anyone out
there knows where I could find some or if they had some that
they were willing to share we would really appreciate to have
them. This could at least help fill the gap a little. Best
wishes to all. Any information or pictures can be e-mailed to us
at akrost@msn.com

Received this email today. If anyone could help with this
request, please do so.
Hello,
My name is Jenny and my father was stationed at the Nurnberg
Army Hospital during his time served with the Army. While he was
there he had written letters to the state officials from each
American state requesting flags from their state to be sent to
him. He gathered almost all of the flags and flagpoles and was
scheduling these flags to be placed around the circular drive of
the hospital. Well, before this project was completed, he was
deployed back to the states, and has not been back to Germany
since. We recently discovered that the hospital was torn down
and my father was devastated, knowing that he would never be
able to see the flags dispayed that he worked so hard to put
there. If there is any way possible that you could locate
pictures of the flags in the driveway for me, I would be so
grateful. I have been looking everywhere, and so has my father.
This would be the greatest Father's day gift ever, if I could
show him photos of these flags. This means so much to him and
now our whole family. Thank you for your time and consideration.
I will await your response with great anticipation.
Thank you,
Jenny

I was born in the Nurnberg Army Hospital in 1973. My father,
Mariano Jose, was stationed at the US Army Base (not sure which
one...) Of course I don't remember much about it but I do know
that the only bill they got from the hospital was to get my
birth certificate! What happened to the hospital?
James:
The hospital was torn down and replaced with apartments.

Meine Geburtzplatz! Alas, never got to return to the hospital I
was born in, April, 1954, and now it is no longer. Dad was a
CWO4, stationed in Furth, not certain why I ended up being born
in Nuremburg instead. Thanks for giving me a chance to visit it,
all these years later.

Lived in the closest stairwell to the female billets, 1st floor
from fall of '76 to Nov '78 and assigned to 2ACR. Loved every
minute of it. Is the hospital building still standing? I think
maybe not.
Eddie:
The only thing left standing is the fountain that was in
front of the building.
