I was stationed at Anderson Barracks from 1994 to 1997 with Alpha Company 123rd MSB. I deployed with them to Bosnia as well and was surrounded by some great E-4 and enlisted soldiers. My memories there were fond and the soldiers on post were amazing.
I enjoyed my time in Bosnia and enjoyed the soldiers in my company. So sad to hear that it was closed down.

I was at Anderson in 1983 through 1985 at Echo Hard Germany was the best tour of duty. The mark rate got up to 4.98 it was wonderful now with the new money not so hot.
I was stationed at Anderson Barracks from May 1965 to Feb. 1967 I was with the 5th Battalion Missles and the other 5 barracks were from 12th Engineers . If you remeber me please email me at price1099@comcast.net. One of my friends were Jerry Stafford
My barracks was Headquarters Co but worked at the dispensary. The medic for the 5th missle Bn was a man named Fisher (Fish for short) who came from southern Indiana and his wife was there also.
Still remember the bowling alley, the EM club, the motor pooll., mess hall and little chapel at the entrance. Also drank beer at Frau Flanz’s gasthaus in Dexheim. Also remember Beatta (sp?) who worked in the PX. She was a bit on the round side but very nice.
I was at Anderson barracks 1974 to 1975. Moved to Hanau before we had to move into the tents. I was part of the Atomic Demolition Munitions team. I worked in the movie theater and lived off base with some other guys in Dexheim. I was with the 12th Eng. Battalion. Had many great times in Nierstein and Oppenheim.
Got to Anderson Barracks when they were still tents, then got barracks. The commander kept us in the field 9 months outa the year. Had some experiences as an engineer, squad leader and wound up with an ARCOM…memories
I was at Anderson barracks in 1975 to 1978 with the 12 Engineer battalion C company, Iwas only 18 years old I had a graet time there, I was married soon I stay off base we live in the town of Dexhiem, my wife work at the px.
I was staioned at Dexheim from 76-79 and I remember SP-4 Jiminez. loved going to campo Pond for training, but hated camp thomas. too many mosquitos. I also enjoyed Nierstein and Oppenheim. Iv’e only run into one other person since i left dexheim and i would love to hear from others who were there. Can’t seem to fing any photos of Anderson Barracks back in the day. Dexheim was not very big but it was very lively.
I was in Dexheim from 1976 until 1979 with the 12th Engineers as the Communications Chief CSM Lane was Battalion Sergeant Major and my Company commander was, Cpt Blair. Also my wife worked at the PX. We now live in Augusta Georgia. Cell (706) 825-1339
I lived as a dependent at Anderson Barracks from Summer 81 through Summer of 83. The 12th Engineer Battalion and an ADA company were there at the time. There were sparce facilities for Dependents at that time. If you were a teen living at Dexheim at the time it was a dull time. I hear things got better in Dexheim in the next decade or so with all of the new facilities built there. We took a nearly 1 hour bus ride to school in BK. Then back. I hung out a lot at the Dexheim AAFES cafeteria playing video games. Bagged groceries at the tiny commissary there. The PX was a little tiny thing. I will never forget my time there because it was so unique. The view to the west of the post was spectacular (fields and farms as far as the eye could see for miles). Its been 30 yrs since my time there and I am now in my mid 40′s but I think of my time there frequently.
Was at Anderson in 1973 before transfering to B.K. later that year to the division headquarters to work for the A.G. I remember the MAB company and making the first crossing ever of the Rheine on a mobile bridge. Sadly I remember the young guys getting there and getting hooked on hard drugs. It was a beautiful place to be but I was able to get an OJT transfer to B.K. and leave behind what I had never seen till there. It’s a shame that it is now abandoned. I loved going to camp along the river and setting off C-4 and using det- cord . Building a pistol range for the locals was fun too!
I was assigned to the MAB Company. It was Echo Company. Our platoon leader was 2d Leiutenant Dirk, then SSGT White, then SSGT Drummond, SGT Munyon. This was back in the mid-70s. I was back at Dexheim in 1997. When spent allot of time at the Oppenheim Training Area, Speyer Training Area, and ect. It is true for the drug issue. I was one of them.
My father Theodore R. Micco was stationed at Anderson Barracks in 1960. My mother Ellen Schonleber was Bx Manager at that time. Does anyone know either of them?
Was at Anderson Barracks 4 days ago and it didn’t look anything like when we were there. Was able to get a picture of the gate we went through, the gym we played bb in and the old chapel by the road. Sad to see it with all the weeds.
Was at Anderson Barracks in 1970 to 1973. Eco. River Rats.
Mab operator at camp tomas on the Rhine River. Was their when
we bridge the entire river. Good time in my life. I remember we had
a race track with volkwagans on weekends.
Part of my time there I was the kitchen manager at the NCO club. Made a ton of carry out pizzas for the EM’s. I remember once a Brit unit was staying there for a time and they didn’t know what pizzas were. They called them tarts.
After that I became one of the bakers. A general commented that my cinnamon rolls were the best he had ever had in the Army.
Maybe some day I will make a trip back to Germany. Looking at google maps old Dexheim is not the same little hamlet.
