  1. Trying to find an old soldier, William or (Bill), Armstrong, Stationed in Berlin, or Heidelberg, DOB-1935 or earlier. Was a Staff-SGT. Probably from Alabama, or NY? Had a girlfriend named Waltraud Hellman. William may have been stationed in Nurnberg Germay also. May have also been a Test-Pilot?

  2. I was station HHC 1/4th INF.I was in the medic PLT.

  4. I was stationed at Andrews Barracks in Berlin between April, 1970 and December, 1972. I played baseball on the Berlin Bears team with Coach Wayne Stephenson in the 1972 season. I don’t recall many of the players. I vaguely remember Willie Harper, Gene Fuller, ?? Pritchard, ?? Forsyche, an a Cuban player/coach “Gato”. Some of the baseball players also played on Berlin Bears football team. I was with ASA. My good friend from Texas was Danny Wilson, who did not play baseball. I lived off-base on the German economy from July, 1970 until my early out in December, 1972.

  5. I was in Berlin from mid 1957 to 1959. I ran the Berlin Command Sports Program at all levels. I played baseball for the Bears during that time period along with Ken Keener, Billy Hunt, and George Stangel, to name a few..
Eddie Crook, was the QB of the football team, and the best boxer in Europe. He later (1960) won the Middleweight Championship in the Olympics, along with another newcomer “Cassius Clay” who won the Gold for us in the heavyweight division.
Berlin then , was a four power city, but we never allowed that to get in our way when it was the cocktail hour..It was a 20 month party, with the best guys one can
imagine..From my dear friend Jim Hutton, who’s movie career began in Berlin, to the
Commanding General D’Orsa, who I played handball with at least twice a week. He was a great man, and such a tough competitor. No wonder our Armed Services were and are the best! With men like him, there was never a moment to worry..
So, it is 52 years later, and my memories are as bright as the morning sun! Thanks for the memories, Berlin, ye shall never be forgotten..

  6. I arrived in Berlin in September, 1966 and departed December, 1969 and at Andrews in the ASA group. What a great tour! Many memories looking back at these old pictures. I moonlighted at Andrews and McNair clubs, tending bar. Drinks were a quarter and beer 15 cents; happy hour reduced those to 15 cents and a dime respectfully. Recall duty train rides from Berlin to Frankfurt in the dark. I bought a 12 year old VW for $167.50 and sold it to a buddy for $100 when leaving for discharge. It ran beautifully and I even drove it to Switzerland and return. Berlin was certainly a neat place and I plan to return soon.

  9. Jim Reed was in the 42nd Engineers and the Andrews Barracks Spoon Platoon from 1976 to 1980. Check out my Rheinland Kaserne site at http://www.rheinlandkaserne.net

  10. I was stationed at Andrews Barracks with the 287th MP Company from May 1956 through December 1958. I played on the Berlin Bears football and baseball teams in 1957 and 1958. We won the Northern League Football Championship in both of those years. Eddie Crook was the QB in 1958. He also won the middleweight boxing championship at the Olympic Games the same year that Cassius Clay won the heavyweight championship, Crook died 2 or 3 years ago. He was a career soldier and a great athletic.

    • I was with the Hanau Pioneers and Fliegerhorst Gunners football teams in 1958 and 1959.I remember Eddie Crooks and he was a great athlete. I also remember the great facilities you had in Berlin. I was also with the baseball team and went to Berlin several times. I have good memories about Berlin.
