I was with co.b 2/36th.inf. from 64-67,made alot of good friends, and still trying to find any of them! I was in the 4th.plt. and b co.hq. as co's pc driver. was on the plotting board most of the time in the field, hated wildflicken, like to frooze to death, did alittle blak market business, loaned some money ,and helped whenever i could. I did enjoy my time there as long as the parties held out,got to see aolt of germany while there. a nice place to visit but, didn't miss it all that much when the time came to rotate back home. still looking for,Lindel ( tiny) Simpson,Tony Esposito,John d Goodnough,Big Jackson,Big Mike and more. anyone have an old co. roster from any of the years posted?

I was stationed at Butzbach 82-83 Not much happening at the Rock back then. Enjoy your time there and GO sight seeing. I wish I had done more of that while I was in Germany.

While in the military I was never stationed at the Rock. However, i attended many COC's as Commanders Driver. It was better duty than playing as a Combat Engineer.

Now, as fate would have it, I am "stationed" on The Rock. I live in one of the Brick houses across from the old Main Gate! As a 12B I was stationed in Hanau, Friedberg and Giessen.
Now I work for an International Communications Company and Live on The Rock.

Hey Rick, Checking in with you, it has been quit awhile. Myself, I was 2/3FA, in the S-4 as clerk and it was a great gig for me. Stayed at Ayers until the last dying day of my 3 years and took my dischage at Frankfurt. Strange feeling, soldier and then civilian a second later after a louie signed my DD-214 that he'd typed. I kind of get amused at some of the things the later day soldiers came up with; such as, The Rock, Redleg, Gunners. Guess we weren't as clever as the fellows that followed on after us! Regards, BobL, Tulsa, OK

Hello All:

My father was stationed at "The Rock" in the 80s (I believe it was between 87-89). He was w/ HHC 1BDE/3AD. Towards the end of his tour he became Ayer's EOA.

He was also stationed in Friedberg as well as an Instructor at Schloss Kaserne in Kransberg at the NCO Academy. Later, after I married-my husband was stationed in Giessen and we are currently living in Mannheim at BFV. We have done a COT so we lived in Stuttgart prior. This is going to be it for us-preparing to PCS in May.

We went back to revisit all the old stomping grounds. Ayers has been leveled and is used as a transportation yard. I believe a major truck company owns it and stores thier vehicles. Its so sad seeing it the way it is now. Nothing but pavement and fence. Its hard to believe American's were ever there-no remnants remain. Even the old "rock video" is gone. The owners finally retired in 02 I believe! I was fortunate enough to see them when we were stationed in Giessen and rode out there often.

Now that Giessen is closed it looks like an overgrown ghost town. The German govt. hasnt done anything with it yet but its rumoured they would use the housing for 3rd country nationals, ie. turkish, polish, etc....I have no idea.

Thanks for this website! Its so great to revist the past and the wonderful memories that came w/the Army and life in germany. Im very fortunate to still have a small part of it by living here to this day.

Dad has retired and moved on. He currently resides in Clinton, Tennessee....fishing and hunting. He's a happy camper!

Pete, Decade before you, 62-64, 31 mo's and 13 days but who was counting! Place probably had changed little except 2/3FA had likely moved back to the Schloss one more time. Wonder who moved into those barracks next to the PX Annex after they left; nobody has answered me on that one yet? I think 3rd Arty spent about 15 years at the Schloss, counting both times. Came up to KG in Oct '61 stayed for a decade and left and came back again in '85 to the new billets; beat the hell out of 10-12 to a room! Discharged at Frankfurt and traveled 8 months. Hoch die Tassen.
