I was stationed at Badenerhof Kaserne Heilbronn 72-75. Was the company clerk for 23rd Ordnance Company, 101st Ord Bn. Cpt Raymond Byrd, Cpt Sherry, Cpt Darrell Kendrick, 1st Sgt Powe. Became the PSNCO at HHC 101st Ord Bn in 75 prior to going to BNCOES Academy at Ft. Ben Harrison IN for Administration. I maintain the unit page for the 23rd on Military.Com.
I was in B-Btry, 3rd of the 84th FA at Badenerhof 73-75. I remember we used to look out across the parade ground and wonder if we really belonged to the same army as you guys, What exacttly did your outfit do? Did you ever have to go on field exercises, combat alert or to Graf? No offense, just curious.
I was also at Badenerhof Kaserne back in 1984-85, 3/84th Abtry. I was at redleg when the explosion happened January 11th, 1985. I took pictures and posted on facebook. search Pershing Missles Ulumni and you will see many pictures. Jeff, you mentioned Tillies, now thats a place i will never forget!! They had the best Ham and cheese sandwiches!!
Yeah, Tillie’s was great. Google Weinstube Braun for their website. Incredibly, they’re still open! I wish I was there right now drinking a big glass of Kluss beer.
Jeff McFadden, Jeff Paris here again, I lived in Untergrupperbac (sorry about spelling). Were you at Kleingartch when the LIVE warhead slipped off the GNC connecting ring sleave while the missle was in the down/horizontal position and roulded off the launcher?. There are two connecting stories I have with this incident. More as well but maybe later. Also, any contact info for CWO Steele?. Thanks.
Jeff Paris,
I have many memories of my time in Heilbronn. I used to date a young waitress at Tillie;s named Ushi, real name Constanza. Lived off post for a time in Ellhofen. Pulled alot of gaurd duty at Ft. Redleg and Kleingartach. Two trips to Graf. Would appreciate more pictures of the kaserne and local sights.
