I was with the 5th MI Co, 513th MI Gp in Kassel before coming down to Camp King in Oct 67 to join the GCD/18th MI Bn. Met my wife (WAC) there and we've now been married for 43 years! A great assignment and great memories...even had Tex Ritter sign my liberty pass at the EM Club.

I was stationed at Camp King from 69 thru 71. I was the Crypto technician attached to Transcom and worked in the como bunker. I was part of a tight small group of GI's and civilians. We called ourselves the "Family Tree". Our group combined to help make our lives at CK a great three years.

I was staioned at Camp King 8/60 thru 4/62 as a German linguist. My best buddy, Bob Capri, was Col. Ross' chauffeur/orderly. I worked for Major Perkins in the C&D Section, along with SFC Smith, Lt. Novikov, other best friend Sp4 Jim Doherty, and various civilians. It was excellent duty except for when the GDR put up the Wall. Will always remember the Schwimmbad in Oberursel, the Bahnhoff Gaststatte and the delicious beer served there - Konigsbacher, I believe. My best German friend was Anton Mink, with Dresdner Bank, former BMW factory motorcycle racer and former Hauptfeldwebel in the Afrika Korps, POW on the island of Elbe. My time in Germany was unforgettable - I learned and experienced things I never expected to see in my entire life. I would love to share remembrances with any and all from that time now fifty years past.
