So, keep your fingers crossed, we might be lucky.
I was Company D Supply Sergeant at Christensen Barracks from 1968 to 1969. I recently came into contact with Bart Cooperman, Company D’s Commo Sergeant who was there at the same time. Is there anyone else out there who served at “the rock” during those years? Does anyone remember the base commander, Lt.Col. Clarence Dye? I would love to hear from anyone.
did the rock become german housing now=do you remember reforger 1980-sgt rich was killed and a helicopter pilot died in a crash with a jeeps whip antenna-that was me
i was with c company 3/ac in bindlach from 1955 till 1957 when i went to the 533trans co [n augsburg iand my pal bobby johnson who was i b companyand i were from philly
I was stationed at hq, 1st squadron from 1973-1976. I was a medic there, handled the medics at our border camps. was promoted from E-5 to E-6 while stationed there. All i can remember, was our platoon wa nicknamed “Lurch.” It was a very good time there. I recently was reunited with Caven Marsh on facebook. Doug McGinty and I kept him out of trouble. If anyone remembers, email me thanks.
Fred Collins, you must have delt with Peter Hillenbrand at the Bindlach laundry across the road from the main gate? I was in Hq Co. supply when we first got there Pete came over and got all our laundry business I assumed that he did this for all the companies at the Rock. I got to know him pretty good and he would take several of us into town at times seemed to be an alright guy. Also where you in the first group that moved into the new barracks that we built and when were they re-built 50-51 ? I saw your picture on the Bindlach website at the service club the girl looked familiar but I never knew any of them since I did not spend much time there. The one guy in back of you looked awful familiar but I only knew a few guys in the 2nd Cav.
I served on the Rock from Aug 15th of 1955 till December of 57 with the 3rd cav. Never heard of any strange weapons being at the Rock. I do remember seeing one of the two atomic howitzers at Graf, but had a good time at the CherryBar and the Frankenstuble downtown.
I was at the Rock From Jan 1970 to Dec 1972 with “B” Troop 1/2 ACR . I was the Supply Sgt and Unit Armorer . I even worked part time at the EM Club. SGT. Lawrence S. (DUSTY) Snow
I feel old. I worked in the Service Club in 1958-59. I would wonder if everybody “my age is dead.” Also, I went to Graf. with the troops. Good memories there.
Ms Stein: I have a picture of me and the troops receiving a cup of coffee and a do-nut at the opening of the Service Club at Christensen Barracks. I do not know the name of the hostess, but one of the girls was from Columbus Ga. I was there from early 1952 until August 1955 as an E6, C Co Suopply Sgt. Would like to hear from you if possible.
Why in the world would we store agent Orange in Germany or Bindlach!!
You must have been riding around with that medic smoking hash!!
Sounds to me like you are looking for a disability check, should have went to Nam!!!
Medic at the Rock and Camp Gates Jan. 1971 through March 1972. Riding around in tanks, playing war games in the winter in the middle of farmers fields and smoking a lot of hash. Managed the PX at Camp Gates, that was fun. Traveled with Fred my bunk buddy who came in from Nam with some time left on his commitment.
Hey Dan, how are you. I remember you cause I think we used to call you Daniel Boone. I was the little latino who hung around with Stevie Long and Daniel Counter, the guy who played the Guitar. If you want to see the pictures I have, go to the Dragoon Base the website is dragoonbase.ning.com. I’ve tried to find Daniel but nothing. Hope you are well. From Mexico, Ray g.
I was stationed at the “rock” from 74-75 in the motor pool. I have been told (other AO vets) that this was a transfer point for equiptment from asia-vietnam and storage for chemical unmarked-unregistered 55 gal drums. I used to pull ammo dump guard for money and saw drums behind fences. I am trying to find out if other vets there have filed any claims for AO exposure or HCV due to unsanitary dental-injector guns-or any other claims for service there. The ARMY will not release or give any information saying records cannnot be located or found.
Thanks
I was stationed at the Rock and Camp Gates from Dec 76 to Dec 79. Spent the first 18 months at Camp Gates working the little Communications Center there, then went to A Trp for the last 18 months.
These were three of the best years of my time in the Army.
SSG Sage was the Sqn Comm Chief, CPT Langmesser the Signal Officer, CPT Jones the A Trp Cdr during my time there.
Anyone who was at the Rock during that time can contact me. I bet we know some of the same people.
I was in the Squadron Commo Plt from Dec 76 to May 78, then I went to A Trp until I left in Dec 79 Was SSG Sage still the Squadron Commo Chief when you go there? Also, was CPT Langmesser the Signal Officer?
Rich,
We gotten a bit older, however, SSG Sage was my Plt Sgt when I first got there and remain the Plt Sgt for my most of my tour. Yes Capt. Langmesser was my Signal Officer.
I worked shift with Diaz, Elrod and Spc Clause, if I am correct in spelling. Also there was Sgt Roberts who was our section chief. He married a German girl and stayed there for sometime.
But after SSG Sage, SSG Buzzard took over and a Capt Jesse Johnson. I worked with a Spc Davis who was a commo guy in A TRP. I hope that this bit of info bring back some memories.
