Hi Bob,

I was stationed at Ludendorf Kaserne from 55-59, in the 24th Engr. FM CO.
Initially assigned the 2nd Maint.Platoon, then transfered to the T.I. Section.

We had a contact team. On saturdays when we had TI&E classes I'd often get out of them cause we'd get a cal;l from the Nike Ajax site outside of Pattonville
because of Generator problems. (this was all prearanged in order to skip the TI&E BS). Had an old Platoon Sgt named Pop Parsons who was an original old Cavalry trooper. He'd eat a large blue onion just like it was an apple. On GI party nights after it was over we'd sneak out to the Gasthaus located on the left up the road from the main gate, get a case of flip tops, andschnitzel;sandwiches then come back to our bay room and enjoy.

I was later sent on TDY to Munich, supporting the 127th Engr's (Eager Beavers) of the 11th Abn. Div. stationed at Henry Kaserne, Then stationed at Alabama Depot for quarters, working at Virginia Depot, scoring out the Engr. Equip. of the 11th Abn. Div. when they were deactivated.

While in the Munich area I met, and married my wife. after the above mission was completed 57, we returned to Kornwestheim. Got a room above the Gasthaus Grag Zeppelin, up the road away from the main gate on the right side.

I had a great time while in the 24th. Went from E-2 to E-5 prior to departure in Nov.59. Got out for 86 days then re-enlisted for 6yrs. Ended up staying in till 84, retired from Ft. Carson Co. in 84 as a CW-4 Engr Maint. Tech Now reside in Woodland Pk, Co at an elevation of 9,000ft msl.

Do you have any recollation of the above events?

Joe,

Old age sure can play tricks on your memory. When I earlier mentiond Biebelried (ref. to a Gasthaus), that was on the rd. to Wurzburg, fron
Harvey Barracks in Kitzingen. Had nothing to do with the Tompkins barracks area.

However accross the highway from PHV there was a great Gasthaus located down a long dirt rd, which served great food. Did you ever locate this one?

take care. Here in Colorado living at 9,000ft elev. we have a long winter. Where do you currently reside?

Thanks for the info. My Mother for some reason never wanted to give it up and has since passed and now no sign of it. I still have a German Birth Cerificate, but now my Military one has gone missing. Thanks again Jerry in Wisconsin

Lee I really enjoyed the Revere/boston reunion. It will be a tough one to follow.
I think the next one is scheduled for Wisconsin, maybe Lacrosse? I know it was on the Mississippi between WI and Minn. Driving distance for me>
