Was stationed at D Troop 3/8 From Jan 72 to Nov 74. What an interesting and great place, just wish I had been able to enjoy it more, was a pretty young dude. Lived in Wachenheim and Finthen Housing Area. Worked as crew chief on AH-1. Stayed in Army until 1992 but always thought highly of FAAF and the people there. Went back for a visit in 2000, sad as hell, they turned the place into housing for homeless?? and its was dirty, in dis-repair and had certainly lost the vibrancy it had when American Soldiers were stationed there.
when I was in D 3/8 we had a unit picture taken. I think I have 2 of them. prob 72 and 73. Might just have to see if I can find anyone from that time on FB or ?? Did find my A/C tho haven’t talked to him yet, I was a CE 67Y. Found a couple others obits..
I was at Finthen Army Airfield from November 1986 until November 1992, in the 205th Aviation Company. I worked in PAC, and was a 75B. I worked in that office with SGT Gourdine, CW2 Piper, Major Stock, SSG Johnson, SPC Sal, SPC Nielsen, SPC Merrill, etc. My barracks were in the same building as our office was. Not a long walk to work! It was that big white building, just to the left as you came on to FAAF. We called it the White House. I inprocessed new soldiers and also outprocessed them. And, did all the usual things like freezing on the flight line in the middle of the night for guard duty and running PT on the airfield. FAAF – the BEST duty station – ever. Hands down. Don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone say that they did not like FAAF. Geronimos!!
I was with the 205th Avn from ( Apr 1987-Apr 1992) I was in the POL section. We were in the small shed on the other side of the hanger. I think I remember you and also all of the people you listed. I know I remember Gourdine, Piper, SSG Johnson and Major Stock. I deployed with the second group to Saudi.
