You mentioned the snack bar at Francois Kaserne. Even in 76, 77 that snack bar was the bane of many a soldiers waist line. They had burger combos to die for. And their milk shakes shook my world. l had to force myself to stop going there or my wife was going to complain to my CO that I wasn't getting enough P.T.

Do you have more info on him? Age now... And are you sure of the spelling of his last name?
If I check on him assuming he was born app 1940 there is nothing to be found. Only 8 Charlie Seiglers nationwide in my search page and the ages don't match.

You can send me an email to gisearchangel@googlemail.com

I was trying to find a guy that was at Francois 1960- 1961 named Charlie Seigler (sic) he was from Cleveland. We said we would keep in touch with each other but after I left Germany in Oct. of (I think it was 1961) I never heard from him again. Maybe someone from that time remembers him. I check this site frequently so if anyone has info I'd appreciate it.

I am very familiar with the Francois, Hessen Homburg, Hutier. and Yorkhof (Chemitzerstrasse) and Kasernes on Lamboy strasse. I was stationed there from June 1963-June1966. I have general knowledge of all the military units in and around the Hanau area. I was assigned to the 629th Medical Clearing Company, 36th Medical Battalion located on Yorkhof. Our unit's Motor Pool, vehicles, warehouses, and equipment were located on Francois Kaserne. Pull a lot of Guard Duty on Francois. Was there during the "Operation Big Lift" like to have froze myself to death during the three week operation. Winters of 1962 and 1963 were the coldest winters in Germany. Rivers, lakes Froze solid. The US Military had to rescue a lot of Germans during these years.....a lot of flooding. Had friends stationed with the 32nd on Francois. I know some names from the years 1960-1962 that were staioned at Francois....Danny Smith from Virginia, Ray Wise from Arkansas, James Dockery from Virginia. I use to eat at the Snack Bar a lot. I use to hang out at the Teddy Bar. Most of the others were regulars at the City Bar, Moonlight Bar and other bars downtown. Great assignment. Really enjoyed Hanau during this period.
