it was great duty, served under echo company commanders milton sullivan and paul buckwalter. service in Lebanon was very interesting and got me a lot of respect later in life when I dealt with middle Eastern people. As a member of the weapons platoon
of echo /187airborne battle group I learned a lot that served me well in the Michigan National Guard as both an NCO and an officer.I always got a lot more respect in the
Guard because I had been an “active duty paratrooper” and knew how to read a compass and a map .I did visit Gablingen with my wife in 1968 there were some
U.S.maintenance units there and the Cafe Annis and the Atlantic Bar were still in
in business in Augsburg .
I was in the weapons platoon of echo company (81mm mortars and jeep mounted 106 recoiless rifles) the company commander was Milton Sullivan followed by Paul
Buckwalter ( in command in july 1958 when we were sent to Lebanon.) I rotated back for discharge in Jan 1959 joined the Michigan National Guard, served 6 years in the reserves went to OCS at Ft Benning and of course I was the weapons platoon leader
of Co B, 225th Inf, 46st INF Div, Mich National Guard until I decided I needed more study time as a law school student ( retired in 2000 after 33 years practice as a trial atty) Duty in Germany and Lebanon was great I still remember most of the guys and
what I learned and what we did made me very proud

This was during the change over years to the Bendix group.
I was assigned to the HHC at Sheridan in Augsburg.

Hello, my name is Chris and I’m desperately looking for my grandfather who served for the army in Augsburg and as I love the United States so much I would really like to know who my ancestors were. I was told that his name is Bill Haley from Texas (I don’t know the exact spelling of his name) and he was in Augsburg between 1960 and 1965. (unfortunately I don’t know the exact year neither but my dad was born in 1962 so I think it should be correct) Does one of you maybe knew him ? Or if not, maybe you have some suggestions for me where I can ask to find him ? Unfortunately I don’t have more information and I’m not very sure if everything is correct that I know because the relationship with the people who know more is very bad. I would appreciate if one of you can help me respectively if one of you has some information or clues where I can ask to find him. Thank you very much for you’re efforts. Take care, Chris
