Does anybody know an Anthony Arthur Dean (or vice versa)? He was stationed in Stuttgart until 1964. He must have been a meddac or a cook, because he wore a white uniform. We don’t know his homestate. Any help is greatly appreciated.
You can contact me at gisearchangel@googlemail.com
I worked at Grenadier Kaerne in the HQ VII Corps DPW, Housing Division, as the Furniture Manager from Dec 88-Oct 90. Worked with many great folks….loved the Bad Cannstatt beer fest…and downtown Stuttgart area. Since I collect German WWII militaria…I found a German WWII Photo album showing life as it was at Grenadier Kaserne. I always recall driving into the gate seeing the figures & eagle at the gate enterance. In 2004, I drove down there from K-town and had a hard time finding a Kaserne…BUT I found it…WOW…big change.
I was there in1953 with the 4th MASH. We had no doctors or patients but we had all of the other medical facilities that we set up under tent in our maneuvers all over the Stuttgart area. In 1954 we relocated to Ludwigsburg. I fondly remember Linde’s Gasthaus at the bottom of the hill from Grenadier Kaserne and our “field trips” to the Dinkalacker brewery.
Don! I am looking for a person just like you. Small background: my mother-in-law was born in Stuttgart, her mother never told her who her father was. Her mother was: Ingeborg Anzenberger and worked at the army base shop. It was hinted at that a “Eugene Hatfield” (or some similar name),was Amer. Army and stationed there, may have been her father. Its a long shot, but do you remember any of these two names? Or could point me in any direction? Please email back. Thanks!!
I was stationed at the Directorate of Engineering and Housing in Grenadier 1983 to 1986. It was a great place for duty, and there were lots of good people.
I’ve been looking for my dads friend who was named Ronnie Norman. He was Stationed in Augsburg, Germany. He grew up in Atlanta Ga and had twin boys. Could this be you?
I was station there from Dec 64 thru Oct 67. First was in an Ord Group and then we formed the 3d Support Brigade. I was in charge of the Classified Documents Room on the 2d Floor of the HQ Building. I have been back many time but the last was May 2011. The only thing left is a little part of the front will that says “Grenadier Kaserne”. It is all private homes now.
I was there 1960 – 1963. Was NCOIC of 5th RTOM 594th Transporation Gp. Was in the building with the small castle and fountain in front. I think it was the 3rd building. Stars and Stripes was in a basement room, We had the entire first floor. German employment office was on second floor and 66th MI was on the third floor.
Nick, I remember Middleton, he was on my shift I think, there were a lot of guys that I can see their faces but have a hard time remembering their names. Bixbee was from Florida, Larry Radloff and I hung out a lot. Doug from Iowa, I went to his wedding while on leave bake to the states. I did rotate back in Dec of 68, mustered out at Fort Dix, and spent a week with Ray Scotto on Long Island before I flew back to Washington State.
I was stationed at the Grenider Kasern May 1966 to Dec. 1968 with Arcerio, Etcheson, Radloff, Scotto, worked on the 4th floor of the 3rd Spt Brigade bldg., a long time ago, good to see some of the old names I remember, Thanks for Serving for our Country

Hi Don:
I spent a short time with the 524th in 1968, maybe 3 months before the unit reforgered to Fort Hood, where I spent 8 months of surveying north fort from a cafe in near Gatesville. Stuttgart was heaven compared to the 182nd LEM in Furth near Nurenberg where I spent 5 months repairing surveying instruments.. I do not recall your name, but ya really can’t expect much after 44 years, I have pictures of the time spent there on my facebook. I live near South Bend, IN
