      Hello,
      sorry for my bad english :-(
      I live in the neighbarhood of the stars and stripes in Griesheim.
      And the last weeks i drive some times to this place :-) so i have to work in the old helikopter hangar.
      So when you give : Georgiiplatz or Flughafenstrasse in your navigation, you find the place with this Foto.
      It is gracy :-) 10 years ago i was in florida with my family, in holiday, And my kids wont to swim with dolphins. on the keys we find a dolphin school ?? his owner works many years by stars and stripes and live in a litle village ( Leeheim ) by the river rhein. so litle is the world :-)

      Facts to the airfield: of the field nobody flys, you find a litle museum of a german fly pioneer, the rest is closed, the green around the airfield is only for the natur.the buildings are very old and nothing is in there.

    I was stationed at the airfield with 159th Med. Co. (AA) from 1989-1992. Anybody around from that time?

      Matthew, I seem to remember your name. How’s it going? I remember the good old days there in Griesheim. Remember the “drink station” over at Stars&Stripes?

    Yes, it is now called Dagger Complex. However, the location is Darmstadt, the phone number is Griesheim – this also goes for the airfield and the S&S compound

    Back in the late 70′s to mid 80′s it used to be the Darmstadt Middle School for a couple of years.

    Also Griesheim Army Airfield/Stars and Stripes Kaserne was never located in Griesheim. After some land reformation in 1976 that part surrounding the S&S compound and the airfield became Griesheim. However the installation always was and is in Darmstadt.

    BTW did you know that this airport is Germany’s very first airport? August 2008, USAG Darmstadt was assisting in holding a open house for its centennial celebration for the August-Euler-Airport..

      did you know that Darmstadt was the first to break windows in jewish shops and send them on the train to die, ? i never knew this till a few months ago, darmstadt had many firsts for what happened then, but, that was war and a very long time ago, i loved every minute i was in Germany and if i would nt fall down id kick my one legged butt my self,

      The Red Barons hangar is located at Griesheim Airfield. In 1990, I worked in that hangar that at the time was being use by the 45th Med. before they deployed to Saudia for Desert Storm.

    Does anyone know where the 6910th RGM was located in Darmstadt in the early 1960s? I was a child then and we lived in Lincoln Village. My dad is gone now and I am wondering about this. Also the location of Memory Field where the Darmstadt Comets played baseball, many fond memories of chasing foul balls and cashing them in for money which we promptly spent.

      It was on Cambrai-Fritsch Kaserne, Darmstadt.

      I was in the 6910th from March 1960 to March 1963

    I was there from 1946 til 1950.
    It was a PW Camp, and Fire Control collection and repair center. No airfield, nor Stars and Stripes

      Sorry Charles, but Darmstadt/Griesheim airfield is the oldest in Germany. So it had to be but there at that time.
