Most of my time there was working in S-2 security office doing the in-processing for security clearances’ for anyone that came through the 8th Maint BN during that time. 3. I was stationed on Pioneer from April 1975 thru February 1977. I worked at Grossauheim in the AK vans. When I first arrived in Germany I lived on Hutier Kaserne and then later the women were moved to Pioneer. I was the 7th female to arrive in my unit which was 19th maintenance Company. I loved my job and Germany. I would have stayed in the Army but my future husband got out so I followed. I would enjoy hearing from anyone stationed with me at that time.

    • I remember those days when the Army was doing away with the “WACS” and intergrating them in the regular Army. I had one of the first female soldiers in the shop office of the 88th Maintence Company, PFC Mary Douglas. I believe it was 1974. Quite an adjustment for a while but worked out well over the years..

  4. I was with the 88th Maint Co and then was moved to the 71st Ord Co when I got promoted to SP5. I was there from 1973 to 1976. I also was a bartender/cook at the Sugar Shack on post for about a year. SFC Bailey was also working the Sugar Shack. Wonder if he is still kicking.. Anyway… Was a great assignment. Lots of stories from that tour…

  9. I was at Hanau from ’76 to ’79 in the 81st Maint. Co. We were billeted on Pioneer, but worked on Grossauheim. I arrived shortly after the 296 CC&S became 81st Maint. I remember they said the motto of the 296 was “If you can’t fix it, 296 it”. It was basically a junkyard. My first job was rebuilding transmissions for M35A2 duece and a half trucks. Later we rebuilt the whole trucks and M151A2 jeeps too. I pulled 90 days as UP commander. Got a tour of the power plant next door. Spent some time at the Rod and gun club. I lived in Hanau, on the last street between Lamboy and the highway. Went to the field at Wildflicken and Mannheim. Bought car insurance, coocoo clocks and stuff at the shop across from the Pioneer front gate. Drove down to Ashaffenberg to see the Pink Palace. Drove to Wurzburg to see the castle. Went on a bunch of Volksmarches. Went on a border tour. Even drove to Munich once. Grand old times!

    • I have no idea who you are by your name on here but maybe we know each other? I was there at the same time you were working in the same place!!!
