  1. SP5 Dave Brown I was in A company 1/64 Armour for 17 long months. I also pulled a lot of guard duty at the front gate. Your right, you were pretty much on your own there. Seems like every other drunk(s) wanted to fight, bum money or cigarettes. All you had was a empty 45 for defense. Made for a long 2 hours every 4.

    Regards

  2. I was station in harvey A companu and the new creted D company from 1981 thru 1984. I married in Kitzingen with a local girl in 1983 and still married today with her. It was some great time. 3. I was at Harvey Barracks with the 66th HEM from Jan 66 to June 67. It was a great place to serve knowing others were in Vietnam. I worked in the shop office. My brother was in Vietnam at the same time I was in Germany. I sure that is why I was assigned there at the last minute. I did a lot of traveling while there – Berlin, England, Holland, France & Germany. Would appreciate comments from anyone during that period.

  7. Hello;

    I served lovely 27 months at Harvey Barracks with A Co, 1/15th Infantry…….from 1977-79. Lots of memories…….both good and bad. Who remembers the “Lariat Advance” alerts, railhead to Graf, Hohenfels, and Wildflicken? I also recall the old M113A1s we used to troll around through the Klosterforst and small unit drills with no blanks or simulators, due to the cheapness of the Carter administration. 1SG James Long of “Longs Law” brings back a bunch of other memories, not to mention my old company buddies in the 1st and 2nd platoon.

  8. I was in 1st Battalion 64th Armor, 3d Infantry Division from Jan 1968 till October 1970. I was commander of Alpha Company and later 2D Brigade G4. Was anyone there at the same time? It was a good time. I stay in contact with Dave Kuhn who was commander of Charlie Company during much of that time.

    • Matt, I was there just after you were there. I was in the 1/15th and at Brigade as the Courts and Boards officer. Was Col. Eaton’s right hand man on the legal stuff. J. Winfrey, Lawrence, Ks

  11. Can anyone tell me who can I contact in reference of getting a copy of my high school diploma from the year 1976, or the proper channel to go through. I’ve tried National Personnel Records Center but the said ‘Request for High School Diploma is not a matter of record” I took my courses in Harvey Barracks, Kitzingen and not Nuemberg American High school, through Department of Defense, can anyone help me.

    • Have you tried the State Department of Education that pertains to your home of record during your military service? A copy of it should have been sent there.

  15. I was a platoon leader with the 66th Maintenance Company at Harvey Barracks 78-81. It was a great time to be a young married guy with a beautiful wife and all of Bavaria and Europe to visit. The officers, NCOs and soldiers of the 66th were great folks and helped me mature and become an effective officer. I hope that someday my wife and I will be able to visit Kitzingen and Harvey barracks again.

    • To Frank Ervin. Do I remember Pops hamburger stand? I lived on those for 17 months. Stopped for coffee and doughnuts in the morning hamburgers and coke for lunch and a coke in the afternoon just before he closed for the day. He always said he was in the American army during the war because they ate fried chicken everyday. Funny old guy.

    My service at Harvey Barracks most of all was the hallmark of all the people I encountered and knew or didn’t know but could have is just part of the mystery and its allure made famous or infamous by the likes of Audie Murphy and the Red Baron.

    I think what most attracts me about all this stuff is that the memories gives one the real raw, unmediated and often textured historical evidence of what we call life. And for me, I think it was quite an interesting one. As a result, the eyes of this perfectly sensible individual who having been blessed to serve there tend to glaze over even water up when I allow myself to drift back in memory.

    My hope is that my hand shake and goodbye meant more than a passing wave when I left my friends so long ago. Yup, at times the memories of sights, sound and smell will capture your senses and seems to be speaking directly into your ear if listen, tempting you to go back to a time in Kloster Forest, Vilseck, Grafenwohr, Wildflecken and Hohenfels, and REFORGER, even if only in memory.

  18. I was stationed at Harvey Barracks from 1962-1965, with 3rd Inf Div, 3rd Aviation
    Company. Lot of great memories.

    • George, I was also stationed at Harvey Barracks from 1963 – 1965, with the 3rd Aviation Battalion. I worked in S-3 and like yourself, I have fond memories. I still wish sometimes I could go downtown to the Golden Gans for a Schnitzel and a beer. I realize though things don’t always stay the same. I haven’t had any communications with anyone from the 3rd Avn Bn, but often wonder whatever happened to Willi & Terry whom ran the laundry downstairs in our barracks. Anyway, I had some good times there and seems life was much simpler. Nice chatting with you, maybe we can swap names sometimes.

  19. I WAS @ HARVEY BARRACKS FROM MAY 1979 TO MAY 1981.I HAD 2D PLT C CO. 1/15. 1SG NOBLE WAS THE 1SG. TAKE CARE FROM SFC RICHARDSON (RET).

  20. The 115 infantry Audie Murphy was the best unit I ever served in. I became a decorated medic by then Col. George A. Jowlon., the kasserne was perfect, and my grunts were my brothers. Brfore I leave this earth, I must go back to my roots.
