  1. I was at Henry Kaserne from April of 1961 until about April of 1963, when I moved down the street to Warner Kaserne to spend my last six months in the army. I was originally in the 46th Infantry, 7th Army at Henry, which was re-named 19th Infantry of the 24th Infantry Division. Lots of trips to Hohenfels, lots of trips to the Hofbrauhaus, lots of trips to Goethestrasse. Went to Greece for a NATO exercise in… early ’63 I guess. Flew there on noisy old C-124 Globemasters. Hated the winters, loved everything else.

  2. I WAS STATIONED AT HENERY KASERNE FROM NOV 1953 UNTIL FEB 1955 I WAS IN THE 370th ARMORD INF.BATALION DOG CO. OUR TRAINING WAS SETTING UP ROAD BLOCKS TO TRY & SLOW DOWN ( GUESS WHO ) DURING COLD WAR. WE CONSIDERED OURSELVES A SUICIDE OUTFIT.SOME OF THE FELLOWS COULD NOT TAKE THE PRESSURE.THE MILITARY HAD DOCTORS TO HELP THEM. I WAS TO YOUNG & HARD HEADED. I AM GLAD FOR THE EXPERINCE BUT GLAD TO COME HOME THANKS TO ALL VETS.

  3. I was at Henry from the summer of ’67 to the summer of ’68 with E Co. 724th Maint. 24th Infantry Division. In ’68 we transferred up to Sheridan Kaserne at Augsburg when half of the Div. rotated back to the states. I was there until July of ’69. Some of the best years of my life. Anyone out there from that era please contact me.

  9. My dad was stationed at Henry Kaserne in 1955. My brother was born there in1955. My dad died a few years ago and my mom has no idea how to get a copy of my brother’s birth certificate. Can anyone help me with where to go to request a copy of my brother’s birth certificate for my mom? My dad’s name was Wallace Looney. He was a Sargent and a Tank Mechanic during the Korean War. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    • If I can do something for you, let me know because Iam German and I live in Munich, or maybe try the Info Page of GI Babies Germany I think its called and Iam sure the know exactly what to do about a Birthcertificate.

      Merry Christmas from Munich

    • I was assigned to Henry during this period and the nearest Med Facility was the 2nd Field Hosp, APO 108 (part of the Schwabinger Krakenhouse). It later moved to Perlacher Forest and became the Med Det, 2nd Field Hosp, APO 407. I don’t know when the the 2nd Fld was closed but it must have been in the 1990′s time frame. Now the question is, where do you look for the retired records? I would start out my writing a letter to the Adjutant General of The Army, explaining your situation and asking his office for assistance. Another possibility is to contact the American Consulate in Munich, since certificates of birth of american children born abroad were registered for passports, etc..
If I can be of any help, you can contact me at eaglesrest@t-online.de. Hope this is of some help. Jim Leighton

  11. Hello Folks,

I was at Henry from Dec. 1963 thru June 1966 in Co D 3rd Engr. Bn right out of Fort Knox, where I was when JFK was assassinated my last week there. I was saddened by seeing old D-43, my tank with a blade on it, never did get used to seeing a tank with a blade on it. Later transferred to the ADM Platoon

  12. Was with Bco.3/19th inf. from 1965-66. Blew out a few million brain cells at Hofbrauhaus.

    • Same unit 64-66 HqHq Company. Remember the Martesa (sp) a big beer hall near the Bonhoff mostly glass mugs though. Many brain cells at the Hofbrau, too. Went to Spain without a pass in 64 I think.

  13. In about May or June,1952, I was assigned to to Henry Kaserne as a raw recruit from Fort Knox Tank Training; the 43rd div was replacing the old first Cav; I believe, also the 143rd was repl;acing the old Walker tanks with Brand New M48 Medium Tank; I walked out on to the field and saw the tank crews cleaning Cosmoline from all the equipment; that’s not for me, on my way to the Orderly rm; the commanding officer had posted a notice for any one wanting to go to M48 tank Mechanc shool; My name was first on the list; After School I was made a teacher; then the school was moved to Bad Tolz for about a year with 5 M48′s.
Names I can’t remember; except for 143rd Motor Officer & Motor Sgt.

  14. Stationed at Henry Kaserne from Jan. 1966 till June 1968. Co. B, 3rd Bn. 70th Armor, 24th Infantry. I was in maintaince and at times the driver for the CO and XO. Would really like to find some of the guys that were there at the same time. Some of their names are; Ron Ash, John Day, Mike Frangiosa, Ron Coil, Mike Hill, Larry Sylvester Johnson, Allen Miller. Just a few that I remember. If anyone knows of these guys or others stationed there at the same time, I would like to hear from you. Thanks, Ken.

    • I was over on Will at this time one of my best friends was Chris Shaw he was the 3rd/70th Bn mail clerk. Did you know him?

    • Hi Wade, sorry I don’t think I knew your friend. Didn’t know too many guys outside of my company. Our mail clerk was Mike Frangiosa and then Ron Coil.

    • Thanks for getting back. Chris was mail clerk for the whole Bn would have brought mail from APO on Warner than the company mail clerks would have gave it out to there people. He might have been in HQ Co. Thanks for info just the same

    • I was at B co. from july 1966 to jan 1969. was the company cmdr gunner on ace tank. was a pretty good at it.was also the small arms repair and c.b.r nco. heard several years ago that billy addis was killed in viet nam in 1970 he relisted after getting married to a german girl.I haven’t heard from anyone all these years. Ron Coil was my roommate at Henry k.

  15. I’m definitely one of the oldies – stationed at Henry Kaserne from July 4th through November 15th, 1952 when we were then sent to Nelligan. I don’t remember the name of the base in Nelligan, it was originally a German Air Base, At Henry Keserne, I and twenty two other white soldiers were the first to integrate an all black Army camp. I am still in contact with one of my good buddies from Henry Keserne and would love to know if Corporal Brown is still around.
