i certainly remember terry freeman. hit by a freakin train on his last night in country. im pretty sure he was in charlie company at the time. the only fellow i knew called crispy was in hhc . he smoked a lot of hash by any standards..

I was in HQ. Company from late 75 thru the better part of 76 until after I was rustled by the 1/40 field artillery at Francois Kaserne while in the middle of a transfer to a helicopter unit. At the 23rd Engineers I was in charge of the Power Generation Section plus all small engine equipment among other jobs. They worked us hard and we partied harder. But we completed our mission no matter what the task. And no matter our MOS we were “Infantry First.”

Bill, I heard that right after I left, our platoon moved across the street to another engineering company. The 567th or something like that. Did they move while you were still there? SSGT. Martin was a really good guy. He was from Kentucky I think. He saved my butt several times when I missed formation and laid out all night drunk. The MPs got me and Clark one night and took Clark to jail for carrying a concealed weapon. I called SSGT Martin and he had him out before morning.

Bill, that was Don Creek that was from Decatur Illinois. I was from Salem Illinois. I transferred with the company I worked for to Tennessee in 2001. They shut down in November 2010 so I retired and stayed down here. I can remember being at SSGT Martins apt and being very drunk also. I think you were with us on the trip to the field when we set off the atomic simulator, weren’t you? If I remember correctly, Bearup was thin and blonde. I usually ran around with Bizanes, Krebs and Creek. I left there in January 1973. Weren’t you from Massachusetts? Paul Vaughn and I used to run down to Tony’s Pizza and eat cheese pizza and that good old German beer. Do you remember Paul?

Yeah, that’s me. You had blondish hair parted in the middle too, and I think you are from Decataur, IL. I remember the good times. Like when ADM had the Kaserne to ourselves with the battalion gone on maneuvers. Or the wild weekends in Frankfurt and the Crazy Sexy. I made a mistake on my time frame though. I was in 23rd from Jan 72-Mar 74. I started out as a MOFAB mechanic with Echo and then moved to ADM. I can’t remember the exact dates, but I think it was the summer or fall of 72 going to ADM. I ‘remember’ (barely) a wild new year’s eve at SSGT Martin’s apt. I was hugging one commode and his wife had the other and nobody could use a bathroom for quite a time.

I remember you Hastings and Don Krebs and a Clark but not sure about the first name. I bunked with Don Creek up on the top floor of HHC. If I remember correctly you were from the northeast your hair was dark and you parted it down the middle. We had some really good times over there. I don’t know what you are talking about with the operation. Maybe you have me mixed up with someone else in the platoon.

Brubaker: I remember you. I was in the 23rd from Jan 71 to Mar 74. I was in ADM platoon from middle of 72 til late 73. If I remember correctly, you had a “delicate” operation while we were there. I bunked with Larry Bearup, Dennis O’Brien, Bobby Clark, Victor Nicotra. and others. Mark Gimple, Don Krebs, Ronny something, (always hammered) Write back if you are the one I am thinking of.

i was there about the same time-c-co 23rd before i was sent to Germany i went to ft belvor for A D M but didnt make the grade .i drove c-12 jeep c-35 5 ton dump truck and c-32 track that was fun-we ate at the same mess as HHC sure miss them times–be good
