I returned in 1982 and it was just about the same but I understand a Medical facility now occupiesa the area.
I was stationed at Hindenburg from 75 to 78 with the 501st AG Company Supply. SFC
George Huber was the supply sergeant. Great funny guy. He was good to work for. Brent Johns from Idaho and Lester Stewart from Alabama and I use to hang out and drink at the Ansbacher Brewery Gasthaus. Hans ran the place. A carton of cigarettes
gave you credit for alot beer and great food. Ansbach was a beautiful place to be stationed. Traveled alot while I was in Germany. I spent alot of time in Schwabisch Hall
with my sweetheart there. Still in contact with her. My wife and I are traveling there next year for a month and will be visiting her and her husband and renting a house nearby. Anyone else here from the 501st?
I was an offset pressman downstairs in Admin Services from Jan 74 to Jul 76. Working with SP5 Don Federspiel. Msg BIlly McLendon and Capt Jesse Marsano were in charge. Played on the company flag football team with Eddie Ward and Roger Moore. Also worked as a projectionist at the on post movie theatre. I also knew Sgt Huber and met up with him when he came back stateside. Now living in PA.
Tom Lyons worked in your section. He was a good buddy of mine. His brother Rich was also on Hindenburg over at 1st Ad Division HQ’s. I remember Eddie, nice guy. and a big dude.
I was a DA GS-11 and worked as Contracting Officer Rep for the DEH from Jan ’76 to May ’77 before a transfer to Corps of Engineers Nurnberg Resident Engineer Office located at Darby Kaserne.

I was stationed at Hindenburg with the 4th Armor Div., ‘A’ company as a tanker (M-60 A1) tank # A-55, from Jan. 68-June 69. My Platoon leader’s name was Lt. Fish. My best friends were John Karch (communications repair) from St Louis, and Mike Holms, another tanker. Mike and I were both from Chicago. The three of us drank our fill of “Flippies” down at Der Keugelsteuben. There was another great guy by the name of Steven Stafonic from Butt, Montana, and Bruce Lappo from Detroit. In August of 68 the Russians invaded Czechoslovakia to put down an uprising in the city of Praque, I believe our entire 4th Division along with half of NATO were sitting on the Czeck border waiting for the Russians to come pouring into Germany (Aug. 24th 1968). In 1969 John, Mike and I ended up separately being sent to Vietnam. Mike was wounded in Cambodia but we all made it out alive. I had a great time in Ansbach…lots of good people and fond memories.
Welcome home and thanks for your service
Perhaps someone can help me confirm that this is where my father was stationed. I believe it would have been in the mid-to-late 60′s. I couldn’t possibly tell you what he did there, however. His name was John Fasselius.
We visited Germany around 1994, and I think this is where we stopped, but I can’t recall.
