  1. I was stationed at Bad K from 65 to66 and prior to that at Dexheim for 20 months.I was with the 576th Dental detachment and would like to know where Ingrid Seus is now. She was the secretary in the dental clinic in Bad Kreuznach.

If anyone has any information on the whereabouts of people stationed there or in Dexheim, please let me know.

  4. I lived in Pfaffen-Schwabenheim as a teenager and went to school at the high school on the hospital kaserne. I worked summer hire jobs there. I worked at the Burger King on Rose Barracks for a couple of years right after it opened. I was there from 84-89. The last time I was there was Christmas 1990. I would love to go visit some day.

    • Well, was the best time in the military community these years in the 80s. But it is all history. The Army left BK in 2001 and the kasernes like Hospital, Marshall and Minick don’t exist anymore. Some buildings of the former Rose Barracks are still there (like the General’s building) but the Burger King is vanished and gone…..

  8. I was station with the MP unit in 72-73

    • I worked at that Hospital for 1 Year as a surgical technician in 1965 to 1966
Anyone out there that worked in the O.R. during that time?

    • Will Gieser:

I was the SP/5 physical therapist at 14th Fld from 1-66 to 9-67. Some enlisted members of the O.R. staff that I recall were Dan Whistler (who lives in Hanford, CA) and Bob Fitch. I was friends with Capt. Elliot Hasting and Larry De Maurici who were surgeons.

Visited B.k. in 1990, and the hospital was closed, although we were allowed to look around. I have wonderful memories of the 14th and B.K. It was a terrific place to serve out time in the military during the S.E.A. war.

  9. You will find several Videos of Bad Kreuznach on my YT-channel http://www.youtube.com/user/Kreuznacher

    • Guten Tag Heinrich-Was that the US Forces gas station and Rose Barracks on the right about 3/4 of the way through the 1982 video? We returned to BK in 1976 and again in 1986, but have not been back since. My son returned about 3 years ago to see where he was born, but could not find the hospital. Perhaps because it was torn down. We used to visit a Weingut named KarlHeinz Keber in Wallhausen. We exchanged Christmas cards with his family for many years. We truly loved Bad Kreuznach, and I hope to return again. We stayed in the Oranienhof Hotel last time, and it was wonderful.

    • Hello Heinrich-I have enjoyed riding with you through Bad Kreuznach. Thanks. I especially liked your Muttertag 2011 drive. It ended down by a very pretty area along the Nahe, near the Oranienhof Hotel. I noticed when I searched for information about the Oranienhof, that it doesn’t seem to be in business any more. Is that a Chinese restaurant where the Officers Club used to be? I see there is a traffic circle just before where Rose Barracks was, on Alzeyer Strasse. We used to walk often through the Friedhof on the other side of Alzeyer Strasse. I don’t recognize a lot of the other sections of BK. We used to shop at a store downtown called Kaufhof.

  10. I was with the 25th Chem. Co. stationed at Hospital Kaserne in Bad Kreusnach, Germany. Looking for friends from there. Anyone out there?

  11. I was a dentist in the 576th Med Det (DS). My office was in the 56th General Hospital Kaserne. I was there from 1969 to 1972. The 56th was very much in service during these years. My daughter and one of my sons were born in this hospital. The two OB/GYN doctors stationed there were Drs Horace Estes and Francis (Beau) Lemon. I have a picture of a bunch of us taking an adult beverage behind the motor pool, should anyone want a copy.

  12. Don’t forget that the Bad Kreuznach American High School was also at the same complex on that side of BK. All of it was leveled. I often visited the snack bar at the BK hospital there as a teen dependent.

  13. My brother and I were born here (Twins), I was lloking for hospital records, since the hospital was destroyed how can I find them

    • Vivian

I served at the 56th General Hospital as an E-5 medic and left in Dec 1971.
When the hospital was closed the records had to be transfered to another hospital
I would try the main hospital for that area in frankfort germany.
      good luck

  14. I was an E5 medic and pharmacy technician at the US Army, 56th General Hospital, Bad Kreuznach, for the latter part of 1970 until March of 1971, until I took a “European Out” in order to travel for several months before returning to the States.

The 56th General Hospital kaserne was in a separate part of town from the remainder of the US Army unit(s) stationed in Bad Kreuznach. IMR, the main US Army contingent in another part of Bad Kreuznach was the 8th Army (or at least some part of it).

The 56th General Hospital kaserne was a little base and world onto itself with its medical and dental-related personnel, a small US Army MP contingent, a small USAF contingent of mostly enlisted personnel (I think they monitored some small RADAR outpost located nearby), the high school for the students of American personnel stationed in BK, small enlisted and officers’ clubs, a BOQ for single officers (medical and administrative pesonnel), onsite enlisted housing in a former wing of the hospital, a small PX and snack bar in part of the basement of the hospital building, a small motor pool area, a small quartermaster corps (when I was there, the officer in charge of the quartermaster was also the officer in charge of the enlisted personnel, most of whom were medics and the like, but there were also an array of other MOS classified personnel as well). And there were plenty of German locals working in various capacities throughout the compound (cooks, PX cashiers, laundry workers, office staff, groundskeepers, and others).

There was usually little association between the personnel at the hospital kaserne and the other US Army personnel in the area. Civilian dependents and those US Army personnel from the other area of town needing medical attention were transported to the hospital’s Outpatient Department (OPD) for daily “sick call.” And the hospital staff provided emergency and ambulance service for all the area’s personnel.

    Anyway, back to
Joe Potenza says: “My Dad has passed and I am looking to find out details (what hospital and what date and time) about my birth. Can anybody point me to a resource that can help me with my inquiries?”
The hospital, as stated above, was called the 56th General Hospital. I have no idea as to your birth since I worked the OPD and pharmacy, not OB/Gyn.

Not a lot of relevant information for you, but at least you now have a hospital name confirmed for the year 1971, and I’ve been able to reminisce a little.

Wish I had more info for you.
    Good luck….

  15. Son of a former US Army Captain stationed in Bad Kreusnach. I was born on a US Army base in Bad Kreusnach in 1971. My Dad has passed and I am looking to find out details (what hospital and what date and time) about my birth. Can anybody point me to a resource that can help me with my inquiries?

    • Joe, if you were born on a US Army Base then it would have been the Hospital Kaserne, Bad Kreuznach which is in the list on the left of this page. The Hospital has now been completely demolished and is a German residential area. Are you sure you were born on a US Army base? I worked at DEH Bad Kreuznach from 1982 – 1992 and the Hospital was not operatiing then and was completely empty. I have my doubts as to wether the Hospital was operating in 1971. In 1982-92 when I was at DEH US citizens used to go to local German Hospitals to give birth.

    • My son was born in January 1973 at Kasern Hospital in BK, so yes it was still going strong there at that time, contact military records and they will have everything you need. I cut my finger and last year went to veteran assistant in my city and two weeks later had everything the doctor wrote on y file at BK. Go to your local veteran office and they will get you what you need. For sure.

    • Joe, I knew your Dad extremely well and remember when you were born. Your Dad and I were Co-Coaches of the 8th Infantry Divsion Baseball team that traveled all over Germany playing other divsional teams. Your father was one great guy and friend. I am so sad to hear that he has passed away. I have 8th Infantry Division team pictures if you would like copies (hopefully I can find them). Dennis McClinton, former Airborne 1st Lieutenant of 8th S & T Battalion in Bad Kreuznach.

  17. Had a baby here on August 2, 1972. I came from Idar Oberstein. Anyone else from that area that had a baby here that summer.

    • Was working as a Medic on the OB-Gyn ward in August of 72. May have assisted in the delivery process that day. Bad Kreuznach was a good place.

    • I was born here on October 11, 1972. The screaming you heard was me!

  18. Looking for buddies and friends from Bad Kreuznach from 1992-1997

    • Hey, remember me?

    • I was in the Signal BN (B Co 8th, then B Co. 141st after the reflagging) 90-94. Used to hang out with PFC Acosta, SPC Wheeler, SPC Hummel, SPC Baltz and PFC Bivins in the signal motor pool and afterwards. The German-American Volksfest held on the post PT (was it Patton field?) field was the bomb!

    • Where you in 8th MP Co? I was in 4th Platoon 90-92 on Rose Barracks, Pruitt and Jeffers rings a bell, but I was a lot of places.
