Was at kelly baracks in 1982 til1984. Was in a rock band named conus.had a german girlfriend named rebekka who was married to someone in the army stationed in texas. What a great time we had. Smugglers was awsom
I was at Kelly Barracks from October 1961 until October 1964. What a wonderful time. My wife is from Eberstadt. I lived in the housing area for a time, and loved Cambrie-Fritch Kaserne. Would love to hear from anyone that server in Hq Co during that time. OR anyone that knew Jimmy Rogers who was in a line company, not ssure which.
I was with the 547th from ’61 to ’63. I was also at the BOQ at Cambri. I’m going through Darmstadt this fall and would like to go by the old locations so my wife can see where I was while she was in San Francisco. I can’t find them on a map (Google) of Darmstadt. Does anybody know their locations and/or street addresses? (Most of the time I was somewhere in the field!)
Cambrai Fritsch’s former entrance is located on Cooperstrasse. Kelley Barracks/Nathan Hale Depot is located on the Eschollbruckerstrasse. Both are now closed.
John: Cambrai-Fritsch Kaserne is just off Heidelberger Strasse (Route B-13, I think) between Darmstadt and Eberstadt, just south of the city. The old Lincoln Village housing area is on the right and you will have to turn left at the traffic light at the very end of the housing area to get to Cambrai-Fritsch.
Kelley Barracks (and the attached Nathan Hale Depot) is on Eschollbrucker Strasse just across from a large store named REAL, formerly Wertkauf.
Ernst Ludwig Kaserne no longer exists – it’s now a condo complex – but it was also on Eschollbrucker Strasse.
When I last visited Darmstadt (July 2011) all the old facilities are closed up with locked gates and guards. To the best of my knowledge, you cannot get in.
John: Check that. Heidelberger Strasse is actually the B-3, not B-13. If you follow the B-3 south out of Darmstadt towards Eberstadt, you’ll eventually see the old housing area on the right. The traffic light I mentioned is at Cooperstrasse. Turn left and go up the hill to the gate for the old Cambrai-Fritsch Kaserne.
John: Correction – Heidelbergerstrasse is the B-3, not B-13. Take the B-3 out of Darmstadt south towards Eberstadt. You will see the old housing area on your right and come to a traffic light at Cooperstrasse on the left. Turn left and go up the hill to the gate.
