I heard Kimbro Kaserne was torn down in 2008? How do I get a map of where it was? My husband and I lived directly behind it on the Staffelsee, used to walk to the Kaserne most days (he worked in the hospital), and I worked upstairs in the snackbar…(1968-1970) I am taking our daughter to Murnau and want to show her the house we lived in, but don’t have a clue how to find it, unless I have a map where Kimbro was….any suggestions?
Thanks!
I was sent from Baumholder to Murnau to attend Damolition and Mine Warfare School in Jan 1966. I could not believe how beautiful the area was and i think about it when i see the movie ” The Sound of Music”
I was assigned to Kimbro from 68 to 70 where I taught engine and powertrain repair on track vehicles. Loved being there as it was so close to everything.
Did you ever go upstairs to the snackbar? I was the girl behind the counter! from spring of ’69 through summer ’69…then went to the kindergarten to teach there…
I was assigned to HQ company in Oberammergau and worked in the Motor Pool.
I attended Recovery Training in Kimbro early in 1957.
Loved the place more than Ogau or Garmisch and Fuessen.
I was reassigned to A Co, USASCHEUR, in late ’65 from HQ Co in Oberammergau. I worked in the AK4DH5 supply shop and the warehouse. Later I worked in the School Supply Warehouse in the basement of the Headquarters Bldg. I remember CW4 Pavlick, the Accountable Officer and MSG Thomas Fraley. Also SSG Frank Barrett – no relation but we looked a lot alike. I was on the Stamtisch at the Bahnhoff and will never forget my good friend Josef Schranz and his family.
I was stationed at Kimbro for two and half years from Sept. 1966 to Feb 1969. It was some of the best years of my life. May Kimbro live in our memories forever. Kimbro was torn down in 2008 or 09. I visit Murnau as I have a daughter whos has taken up residence In Bavaria.
