  1. any 84th from 75 to 78 out there?

  2. I was stationed at Merrell Barracks from November 1966 until mid June of 1968. I served with A Btry. 3rd BT. 17th Field Artillery 35th Artillery Group as Chief of Communications. .It is January 30,2012, it has many many years since I was in Germany. The pictures have brought back many memories and it would be great to hear from my old buddies.

  3. I was stationed at Merrell Barracks from 89-92. Those were the best times of my life and sentimental to see it go back to the Germans. Good cause though. I was with 87th CHEM, part of C&C squadron.

  4. You folks at Merrell may have been 2AC.Guess you had you share of field duty. I was at Montieth 1/67 to 8/68.Montieth was a dump. You were in the middle of Nurnberg!! In many ways a tour of duty to the average bear was a paid vacation to Europe/with some reservations. There was some bays –NO heat! Merrell was bombed –Who rebuilt it? Montieth was the ONLY kasern one could go ANYWHERE on post after 5 PM in fatigues!First time I saw Merrell I envied your location!! And still do! Being atMontieth compared to Merrell was almost as the poor souls stationed at Vildflicken or HOF IN THE 196 Cav on permanent border duty!! Tell you==My boots were as muddy as if I had been to Hohenfels or etc. People back in the world could no comprehend. Transfering to 2AC to relocate would have been VERBOTEN! Somebody out there do a little comparison shopping. Hot water was sometimes rare at M. Mess hall was below ground level, cook stoves nix, no toast at breakfast,C=rations in garrison, Off post people swipped a bunch of silver–Forks were a rare item. Water not hot enough to wash dishes/no soap/bought Tide at PX. Ate once at O’Brein in Schawbuch-Mess hall was as a steak house. Late in tour I would try to go to hospital to get class A meal. Can not all have it good. Walter Winchell once said something to this effect “Mothers, wives sisters, sweethearts, girlfriends with sons, husbands, boy friends, brothers, lovers in Korea—Write to them!!! If they are at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri====Pray For Them!!!! I feel that way about Montieth! Merrell guys count your blessings and be grateful. Did anybody out there ever go to RVN and ever see any old First Sgts. Or any Educated 2nd & 1st LT”s from Germany??? Would like to hear the story..There is one good thing about Montieth===It would make a good Mini-Series. Anybody know TOM HANKS ???

  5. Hallo troops!

If there are any current troops there and/or sympathetic Germans who may be reading this, please drop me a line if you think you can help me locate my girlfriend from 1990. Out of respect for her privacy, I will not post her name openly. As I recall, she lived in Fuerth, and although I met her at the Green Goose, she was much more than a fun girl; she was a truly good woman. It would be a real treat to say “Hallo!” to her, if possible.

    Always ready!
    Will

  14. I was stationed at the old SS Kaserne (I dont remember it being called Merrill) 1951-52 in C Company, 371 Armored Infantry Bn, atched to 2 AC. 371st had been an all Black Bn, but integration had started and went very peacefully, much to the surprise of some of the commanders. And as I recall it progressed to about 50-50. I was a white 2d Lt and my platoon was all Black enlisted men. We spent a lot of time @ Graffenvere and other training places I cannot recall. Our Company Officers were all Black and all four plt ldrs were white. If anyone served there at that time, please let me know. Bill

  15. I was here from 1980 – 1982….2nd ACR

  16. Hello to all Cold War worriers.
I was stioned with the 240th S&S Co/71st MT Bn from 1973-1977 duty station Class III POL in Feucht. Enjoyed many Schnitzel dinners and Patrizier beer in Feucht and greater Nuernberg area. Made many trips to various MT Co on Merrell bks. Couple of friends from Merrell bks helped me with my Pontiac Firebird at the carft shop. CQ at Class III had dual duties. I also was the SGT of the guards and held guard mount at Merrell. Many trips to Soldiers field Hitler’s parade grounds. Attended plenty of FTX’s and each year Reforger’s. NEO alerts. Memory lane. After our soldiers left Merrell bks the German government took over. Closed to public it now houses office connected to the Zirndorf refugee camp, BGS and polizei.
After 20 yrs mil service two tours (Nuernberg/Munich) I retired. Returned in Apr 1987
under the 66th MI Grp worked 4 yrs in Giessen then Nuernberg 1991-94 my favored city. Mid evil and plenty WWII history. Those were the days they will never come back. I miss the Cold War era. The wall came down Russia crumbled and not one shot was fired. What’s left is great friendship and great times in Germany.
You all take care. Happy New Year,
    Adolf
