I was stationed at Merrell Barracks from November 1966 until mid June of 1968. I served with A Btry. 3rd BT. 17th Field Artillery 35th Artillery Group as Chief of Communications. .It is January 30,2012, it has many many years since I was in Germany. The pictures have brought back many memories and it would be great to hear from my old buddies.

I was stationed at Merrell Barracks from 89-92. Those were the best times of my life and sentimental to see it go back to the Germans. Good cause though. I was with 87th CHEM, part of C&C squadron.

You folks at Merrell may have been 2AC.Guess you had you share of field duty. I was at Montieth 1/67 to 8/68.Montieth was a dump. You were in the middle of Nurnberg!! In many ways a tour of duty to the average bear was a paid vacation to Europe/with some reservations. There was some bays --NO heat! Merrell was bombed --Who rebuilt it? Montieth was the ONLY kasern one could go ANYWHERE on post after 5 PM in fatigues!First time I saw Merrell I envied your location!! And still do! Being atMontieth compared to Merrell was almost as the poor souls stationed at Vildflicken or HOF IN THE 196 Cav on permanent border duty!! Tell you==My boots were as muddy as if I had been to Hohenfels or etc. People back in the world could no comprehend. Transfering to 2AC to relocate would have been VERBOTEN! Somebody out there do a little comparison shopping. Hot water was sometimes rare at M. Mess hall was below ground level, cook stoves nix, no toast at breakfast,C=rations in garrison, Off post people swipped a bunch of silver--Forks were a rare item. Water not hot enough to wash dishes/no soap/bought Tide at PX. Ate once at O'Brein in Schawbuch-Mess hall was as a steak house. Late in tour I would try to go to hospital to get class A meal. Can not all have it good. Walter Winchell once said something to this effect "Mothers, wives sisters, sweethearts, girlfriends with sons, husbands, boy friends, brothers, lovers in Korea---Write to them!!! If they are at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri====Pray For Them!!!! I feel that way about Montieth! Merrell guys count your blessings and be grateful. Did anybody out there ever go to RVN and ever see any old First Sgts. Or any Educated 2nd & 1st LT"s from Germany??? Would like to hear the story..There is one good thing about Montieth===It would make a good Mini-Series. Anybody know TOM HANKS ???

Hallo William,
try it with www.dastelefonbuch.de. If you can't find her, just call all the other people with her last name. There will probably be some relatives still living in Fürth.

One sympathetic German

Hallo troops!

If there are any current troops there and/or sympathetic Germans who may be reading this, please drop me a line if you think you can help me locate my girlfriend from 1990. Out of respect for her privacy, I will not post her name openly. As I recall, she lived in Fuerth, and although I met her at the Green Goose, she was much more than a fun girl; she was a truly good woman. It would be a real treat to say "Hallo!" to her, if possible.

Always ready!

Merrell Bcks. 1986-1988, MEDICAL TROOP, RSS, 2d ACR., TOUJORS PRET, ALWAYS READY.
I COULDN'T WAIT TO GET BACK STATESIDE, ONLY TO REALIZE AFTER THE FACT, THAT NUREMBERG AND THE ARMY WAS THE BEST TIMES OF MY LIFE. SO MUCH SO, I VOLUNTEERED LITERALLY IN 1990 TO GO BACK ACTIVE FOR DESERT SHIELD AND DESERT STORM.
TO THOSE I KNEW WHILE STATIONED AT MERRELL BARRACKS, THANK YOU.
TO ALL MILITARY PERSONNEL, PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.
I MET A WONDERFUL GERMAN FAMILY THAT GAVE TO ME THE GIFT OF TRAVELING IN EUROPE, GAVE TO ME A SORT OF EDUCATION THAT CAN NEVER BE TAKEN FROM ME. TO HERR UND FRAU HERBERT TRÖESTER OF STEIN, VIELEN DANKE FÜR ALLES! ICH LIEBE DICH....DU BIST GANZE SUPER!!! I MISS YOU AND WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER WHAT YOU HAVE TO ME.
