I am looking for a Lee Wild (not sure of the spelling) who was in or around Nuremburg in 1962 & 1963. Please contact ammerer1@yahoo.com if you know anything about him. Thank you!
I am doing a research project concerning an event that occurred in April, 1946, and I wonder if anyone could help me with it. At that time, at the end of the war, German prisoners were held at the Nuremberg-Langwasser Prison. A group of Jewish men poisoned the bread that was eaten by these prisoners. The men, a few thousand of them, were reported to have been taken to local hospitals for treatment. I would like to find out if any of these prisoners died from the poisoning. I am hoping that someone would know what happened at the hospitals in Nuremberg or would have records from that point in time to determine whether any prisoners did die.
Any information that you have about this would be appreciated.
I was stationed in 1951-52 at what is now being called Merrell Barracks (I dont recall that we called it by that name, but the one we were in was trhe old German SS Barracks. Anyway I was in the ALL BLACK 371 AIB, except for 10% WHITEOfficers. We were attached to the 2d Armored Cav, And in early 1952, the first WHITE enlisted Men (20% of the battalion were shipped in and 20 of the BLACK enlisted men were shipped out and a gradual integration took place. I believe that the 371 was the first unit of Bn size to be integrated and much to the surprise of many, a very peaceful event indeed. I was a platoon leader in C (2d Lt). Company and the other three platoon leaders were also WHITE. The CO was a 1st Lt from Philadelphia Pa, 1st Lt Cox from Ohio was EXO and cannot remember the name of the Administrative Warrant Officer and all three were BLACK. We had a great time especially when we went out on alert…I have never laughed so much in my 84 years and the beer was good and plentiful. We rode our half tracks all over West Germany. Would like to hear from anyone there at that time. Thanks PS (I enjoy all of your stories, Too)
Hello Bill.
Not too many of our young soldiers know the story about Merrell Bks. You are right about the SS Kaserne. I was stationed in the Nuernberg are twice. As a soldier 1973-77 and later as a civil servant (Liaison officer) 1991-94. The second time due to my job I was in contact with a lot of locals from whom I learned a lot of WWII history. about the Nuernberg area. The BA (Bavarian American hotel) acroos the main train station where soldiers and their families checked in was Hitler’s hotel when he had his rallies. Enjoyed you story also.

I need to get in touch with my son-in-law who is stationed at the Army Base in Nürnberg to check on our daughter who is traveling to see him. His name is Todd O. Brady. Can someone direct me on how to reach him?
My name is Tom Moore I was at 47th med. monteith barracks 1981 to1983…Looking for old friends,, e mail me at tommoore55555@gmail.com….Hey Kim Moe where are you?
William O’Darby and Kalb housing as of july 2009. Not much remains as we knew W.O.D. Most buildings especially the older were toren down. I did nor recognize and was totally lost while visiting. The building where my company the 240th S&S was toren down. Going out the back the gate I remember an U/I Arty BN ist still standing now newly renovated looking good and housing locals.
The rest of W.O.D. is now a rec site for locals to take their kids and dogs for a walk.
I was stationed and living in Kalb housing (1992) when it was shut down due to our troops leaving for good. It broke my heart to see such a large comunity reduced to 0. Kalb housing now revived looking excellent. It was given back to the German government. The apartments were sold to private citizens. Later I read from the local Fuerther Zeitung article owners sued the German government and won. Since the apartments were built early 1950 on and then leased by the US government to house the troops it was then invested by asbestos and other chemical agents. All of the interior was removed and renewed.
The movie theater is still standing so is the old shopett and the ajesting gas station building. It is now being used as a grocery store. The road across from the gate now has a Pizza Hut.
Memory Lane. Great place with visit. My youngest son was boren January 1975 at the Nuernberg hospital.

I was stationed from 1973-77 at William O’Darby casern with the 240th S&S Co working at Feucht class III fuel depot. Stood many guard mounts at Merrill Bks prior going on CQ. Great times in spite of REFORGER and FTX’s.
Changed MOS (96C)and was stationed from 1979-82 in Munich with the 66th MI. Great duty, great city just a great time.
Got lucky after retireing in 1985. I was hired as a civil servant with the 66th MI. My first job was in Giessen on to Nuernberg and at last Augsburg where our US flag came down. We were asked by the German government to go home. I managed to spend a total of 15 yrs in Germany. Went back in 2002 and again in 2009 for a 2 week visit. Great memories, good food and beer.
The good old days will never return. Only the memories remain.
