    I was in the 629th Medical Clearing Company from 1959 – 1961. Battalion Commander was Major Bishop. Anyone remember Sgt. Hartenstine, Sgt. Evans, Captain Emerson ?

    Stationed with 36th Medical Battalion from December 1960 through May 1963. All I can say is that it was a rewarding experience for a young twenty year old from Tennessee. I cannot recall the names of the Battalion and Company commanders at the time; but there were some great guys and NCOs in the Battalion. If you can remember the names of some of the officers and NCOs (including the young Lieutenant with the souped-up Ford directed to replace his exhaust system), let me know.       James, I am curious. You stay 2 1/2 years, so I think you would maybe know some of the NCOs and Officers that I knew. Which Company within the Battalion did you serve with? 629th Clearing, 695th Ambulance, 427th Ambulance. Do you know SSG Meadors (Supply Sgt 629th), SSG Morales (Supply Sgt. 695th) Sp/6 Carter, SFC Becvar, promoted to First Sergeant, SFC Gaither (629th PSG) SP/5 McBeth,Morris D. 629th Med) SFC Walden (629th PSG) Cpt Greene Commanding Officer ( 629th) Cpt. Benchoff Commander (629th Commanding Officer) Lt. Helton Executive Officer (629th) LTC Motson 36th Battalion Commander. I agree with you, it was an rewarding experience. I was only 18 years of age. Found the love of my life in Hanau. Married her 48 years ago and have not regretted a day since. We have two wonderful children. I have visited Hanau a many times since. The city is a special place for both of us.

    From June 1963-June 1966, I was assigned to the the 629th Medical Company Clearing , 36th Medical Battalion, 31st Medical Group (Darmstadt). I was located in the Yorkhof Kaserne located on Chemitzer strasse. Not to far from the NCO/EM Clubs. The American Legion was located on the corners of Lamboystrasse and Chemitzerstrasse. One of my best assignments. During this period I worked for ISG Wilson and ISG Becvar. My PSG was SFC James Gaither. Company Commanders were Cpt Benchoff/Cpt Greene. Other units located on Yorkhof were 427th Ambulance Company and 695th Ambulance Company. The Battalion Commander was LTC Motson. This was my first assignment in Germany. The NCOs that I worked for were role models and I wanted to emulate them so I re-enlisted and made it a career. I cannot say enough good things about this duty station. I enjoyed every minute of it. A great group military people.

    I worked for Central Texas College from 1989-1995 and 1982-1986. My father worked there also. I loved it. The people there were really great. I will never forget the graduation party they gave me.
